mel b 4,800
I'm very sorry to hear about your daughter mate , and I sincerely hope that she gets fixed up as quickly as possible. I can't offer any practical help , but I can tell you about my brother. He had an epileptic fit at work , when he was about 20 years old . It took a few moths to get things sorted ( diagnosed and medicated) , but he hasn't had a fit since . He's early fifties now , and the only issue that he ever has , is that his hand may start to shake occasionally, but the meds make sure that it doesn't turn into a full on fit. The only thing that it has ever stopped him from doing , is holding a hgv licence.
Aussie Whip 4,373
My ex mrs would get seizures, it scares the hell out of you. She would get them from only a small amount of alcohol so she could never drink.
Welsh_red 5,146
Just thought I would update this just incase any other member in the future is having the same thing happening to them and looking for some help or some comfort Im downstairs in the living room at the moment and my mrs is upstairs trying to convince my daughter to get changed into pyjamas. She has another seizure 30 mins ago and has started to come round properly and is in a stinking tired mood and wants to just sleep in the clothes shes in Since the first and second one in december she had she has had 5 or 6 more seizures including tonight's one . The prison cell which is my house has become a tinderbox every day. My mrs being the dogged strong woman that she is has bullied and harassed anybody and everybody into getting my daughter a head scan which she had in January. The epilepsy nurses that have been assigned to my daughter have been absolutly amazing and cant do enough to help or reassure us. She is now taking Levetiracetam every morning and every night and slowly ramping up the dose every other week . Seizures are getting slightly less time with each one but still as utterly horrific to witness as the last . The worst one was us as a family driving up to Bristol to visit my Mrs Step dad who is in the last stages of terminal cancer. We were doing 70mph on a duel carriageway when I could hear mumbling from the back and my son recoiling in terror and when I looked back she was going into a seizure moving forward in her seat with the seat belt tight against her neck and her arms and legs going tense and at funny angles with her face clenched. I will give my mrs credit for her driving skills as im leaning back through the front seats triyng to hold her back from the seat belt with my son she managed to get off at the next roundabout where we could stop the car and get her lying down on the back seat until she had stopped. Like a absolute gem of a girl she was adamant when she came back to normal not to turn back for wales but go go on to Bristol . Shes not fully aware of my father in laws condition but her decision might have allowed my mrs to see her step dad for the last time . At the moment we all feel like crap in the house. I spend my evenings watching the baby monitor from the sofa every 2 mins to check nothing is happening with her , my mrs is in our bedroom reading a book working herself up into a migrane stressball about it all , my daughter has lost the social life she had with friends around the town and has gained loads of weight from not doing anything and the tablets bounce her mood from my normal lovely daughter to a horrible vicous nasty , spitefull girl who will be raging for 3 hours until 1am shouting and screaming and me and mrs about anything and everything , my boy is just sort of coasting through it all and to be fair to him hasnt complained when his life has had to go on hold because of her condition All im focusing on is this medicine eventually working and her to hopefully be let loose to carry on her life sometime around the summer. I just want her to be able to say " im off down the river with tyler & Zoe " and to just watch her go out the door without having to be her shadow Im also acutely aware she only has epilepsy and their is much much worse things that happen to people with kids , but f**k me my head is just constant fuzziness these days . This year feels like its been either 2 weeks or 2 years . I cant believe its nearly March . I feel like given the opportunity I could sleep for days on end

jukel123 10,210
Small comfort I know, but when something like this hits one of your family it knocks everybody for six. Family members are traumatised. But in a year's time it will be history. You will all have learned to cope with the situation, both medically and psychologically. It's just a case of hanging in there until you are all in a better place. Atb.
