Every time a right is taken away its a step in the wrong direction.I believe one day even the fishermen will look back and wish we'd all done a better job of standing up for our sports together.

Must be a different setup in England. I do the terrierwork for a mounted pack here and have done now for a number of seasons, and we’re all like family. I got into riding a few years back now and don’t own my own horse and a couple of members numerous times have given me a horse for free absolutely delighted to see me up on a horse. Ride up front and for free. Hunt ball tickets given to me every year. Free feed for my dogs. It’s my life and I wouldn’t talk bad about it one bit. From washing out kennels, walking hounds , going to hound shows, autumn hunting , and hunting. It’s a full way of life . Everyone in our hunt are farmers, trades men, working class people. Couple of wealthy business owners who keep the show on the road who are as ordinary and genuine as the man next to him. There’s no lords or earls or any of that bollox in hunts in Ireland . Maybe some hunts but certainly not ours. As the terrierman I’m treated no different to a joint master or huntsman. Myself and the huntsman are best friends and have been since he took up the role and we first met. Maybe I’m just extremely fortunate to have a hunt like it. I’ve been told from digging lads all over who a few have come for a weekends digging up to me. Dig a few Saturday morning the go to the Meet at 11:30 local pub few pints out with the hunt maybe mark one or two , then back to the meet for more pints and an open fire and a good slagging match about who fell off and where and off out digging Sunday again then. I would love to name the hunt but that wouldn’t be wise nowadays. Few the lads on here who know me know the pack. Long live the hunts . I can honestly say I’ve never enjoyed my hunting as much since I started doing the terrierwork for them. Not for digging alone but for community and hunt life caring for hounds and just being around them. Something absolutely magic about arriving at the kennels and your met with a song. Even if it is just to pick up there shite…

Live the dream mate and cherish every second of it, your a lucky man and all the very best to you..:victory:..

So many antis hate the posh image of the hunts when most hunts are made up of all walks of life. Seems to me the more hunts that fold the more foxes get slaughtered by other means??

Ah I grew up being told to enjoy it while it lasts off lads older than me reckoning they’ve done it all and seen it al and it’s no good anymore , I’ve more than my fair share done. I don’t listen to the negativity anymore just enjoy my hunting. It’ll last as long as it does. Your head would be melted if you were to listen to everyone.

I’m in the same situation. Little farmers pack no snobs. The doors it opens for other things in life mixing with people I wouldn’t normally. Situation might change at other packs but will keep head down and keep plugging away whilst I can

A great weekend with A good pair of friends who come up for a couple weekends hunting every year to me. Started off Friday checked the first earth , very well ran however a promising young dog with 7/8 digs under his belt said no, tried a more experienced bitch. She also said no so that was good enough for us he wasn’t in it but not far away. Went across the road checked another one on the same farm he wasn’t in it but down the ditch we checked an earth I never got game out of before and sure enough it was holding. Lovely digging at 1.0m out the flat of the field . 1 accounted for. Up the road to the next farm and broke through to 4 in the pocket. I broke through to 6 in pocket lastyear in the same earth.
went up the road further to the next spot a big old rangey place a good test for any dog 2 animals out of it. Called in to the village for a fry, cup of tea and a bit of craic , 12 o’clock and 7 dug. On we went again and checked a few along a bank hit one there . Then hardship came our way , I went to next farm along a railway embankment that I had savage hardship at over the years a stupid decision but the dog was in and working its quarry there was no point crying now. After about 2 hours we broke through to the dog with the game. Filled it in and f****d off, we were at 9 , weve had 9 a few times never got the ten and I wasn’t going home on 9 again. Went on to another man’s farm in the dark the earth was polished and another dog flew in. Dug it in the dark , 6 digs 10 animals. Went back to where the lads were staying for food and couple drinks and hit for bed.
up early next morning to meet at the kennels, done a couple hours on foot no joy with scent being poor in the frost , hounds hunted well in the shade but once it crossed the open smell vanished. What harm was lovely to be out. Went and got a dinner in local village and on and tried 3 more earths and got 2 digs. 10 for Friday and 2 for Saturday. The Dogs and men were tired Sunday.

Thanks mate. I don’t post much on here anymore but no harm posting the odd story of a good day and keep the pictures sensible. Also I meant to say in original post all credit goes to the dogs, there not mine there my mates. Absolutely Top class.  I’m on the verge of leaving the black stuff behind and filling the place with his stuff . he left a 6 month old bitch up with us fair play to him. A younglad 15 starting to get into it he does come with me when he can . My mate said he’d give him a good start with a proper bitch to help him get going. lol I wish I had that help at the start instead of driving around the country buying shite off people .
