I spoke to him a while ago, doesn’t like his name mentioned on here, we lamped up and down the country with impunity, in his Subaru, all winter for a couple of seasons and never got stuck once ! LOL !

He actually lined one of his bitches with Scout and offered me and LDR a pup each.

Cheers.

The dog suited me because he wasn’t fragile, you could take him out night after night anywhere in the country on any terrain and he would smash about and you’d take him out again the next night and get the same or not for a few days and then out and get the same.

Bumps, bangs, cuts, banged up feet never bothered the dog at all.

I had a coursing type out of good breeding and I just found the dog way too fragile, I wasn’t the man for that dog, he needed better than me and I just broke him.

I’d had bull blooded dogs before, Sal/bull/grey types and found them wanting, but I just clicked with my dog…..I’m not experienced enough to know the whys and wherefores mate, we just suited each other.

That was a previous dog, he ate the back of a mates truck…..luckily the lad was one of the soundest lads you would ever meet and told me not to worry.

I was mortified especially seeing as the lad and his family were lovely generous people.

So I’ve stated before I’m not really a foxing man although I’ve had decent dogs on them. I had a very good bull greyhound for a while before he was killed by a gate lamping .

they weren’t for me although most of my pals always had one or two about them. I remember clear as day the first one I seen on a fox driving day in 1995, it was a big heavy brindle bitch , likely staff influenced and it was lovely to see at its work . The breed wasn’t really popular in Carlisle until then and this bitch was from some lads a bit older than me from over the border.

then I started going out with some lads from out west , lol , it it weren’t bull it weren’t coming lol . My best adventure was with my own two dogs and my pals two bulls , a three quarter bred and a half cross in the lakes where we backed a big huge red stag up into a dyke corner and slipped , it kicked f**k out of all the dogs and damaged three of them badly . It was sobering lol but funny looking back as we thought we were the real deal and our dogs unbeatable ha.
I think like all dog men , I can admire them .

But as I grow older I see them in different way , I have a perverse admiration for the breed , I remember laughing hearing when a well known dog named after a sports brand my pal owned developed a propensity to start latching onto horses .i can’t equate the owners who use them as a normal lurcher , as much as that’s admirable , i like a bull grey to be a bull grey , a savage Nasty mean killer , otherwise what’s the point in having one ?

I likes a bit of bull , I like that nature , I like that strength , the build , the pluses it adds to an all round dog .
Would I have a dog with bull in ? Yes

would I have a bull grey ? No , the ones I like are just too much dog for what I could be putting in front of it .

There’s lads in here who have had and do have very good bull greys , who will , if they see fit , comment . One of them in particular has had some exceptional dogs . Lads like that are far more qualified to speak about them than I
