I had to do a course today, the latest drive from HR that everyone needs to complete 1 training session per month. They don't understand that sometimes proper relevant courses are happening in order to retain professional competency or people are busy doing the job that keeps these HR and admin types employed. Anyway, this month's was Critical Thinking, I think, wasn't paying too much attention.

A big part of the course was arguing. I had not received any training in this before today other than the Monty Python sketch which is more us useful in many circumstances. I did learn today that there are 2 parts to an argument, Belief and Evidence. The belief being the cause and the evidence being the tool to win. They gave a silly example of a flawed argument:

Belief - the Moon is made of cheese and mice live on the Moon

Evidence - due to advancement in deep sea exploration the Titanic has been discovered on the sea floor.

I immediately though of THL and smiled, in good way 🙂 🙂 🙂

I think “argument “ covers a range of discussions; from civilised debate to aggressive verbal confrontation.

I enjoy the former but avoid the latter.

What I dislike is when an argument is being lost and the adversary resorts to “what aboutery “ and moving the goal posts, which is usually the modus operandi on here ! LOL !

Cheers.

So is this the right room for an argument?

The course was Critical Thinking (I think) and how to have an argument was only a part of it. This was followed by a course on Creative Thinking, that used Picasso as an example of "abstract" "thinking outside of the box" which inspired me to start drawing pictures of terriers knacking foxes and lurchers striking hares in my notebook, something that I used to do at school and would get twated by the teacher, but not today.

Aye we  shall just “trust the science “ lol

Constants are constants they don’t change outside of where they’ve been observed.

What science are you questioning?

That’s what they’re trying to find. The constants of quantum  theory/mechanics/etc.

but is everyone now onboard that we went to the moon?

I always preferred Landseer to Picasso anyway.
