My Mrs is in to the wild swimming...not for me I hate the cold water....

After exercise your best of doing hot water or steam room...especially weightlifting...you want your veins and arturys opening up...vasodialation...cold water and ice closes them down a bit....you want good blood flow to your muscles...

But on none training days there are loads of health benefits from cold water and ice

Unless you are a competing athlete consistently stressing the body during hard training you have no need for ice baths....ice baths are similar to steroids they just allow faster recovery between trai

Your balls hit the ice cold water you get a headache, perhaps that's were ya brains are, in ya .balls

I've read some studies suggesting it can negatively effect your gains when resistance training, think that is on training days though.

Exactly...makes sense though...if you restrict blood flow directly after traing ...

It also inhibits the inflammation process which is a part of muscle growth, if muscle building is your goal it's probably best to avoid.

Funny fella that wym Hoff....Borr on here does ABIT of wild swimming etc...I see loads on face ache and instabum, singing about the benefits of it,along with the bare foot walking(grounding),just had a toolbox talk on site this week, about mens health charities offering ice baths, wild swimming etc...big thing on the sites these days.... problem is,every cnuts suicidal because of the over the top health and safety nonsense, they expect you to adhere too lol...the old, let's create a problem...then offer them a solution at a cost😉👍

Everyone's different, what works for one,may not for someone else..I used to find, that when I was out regularly paddling my play boats, mountain biking/moto x and working my dogs,I was at my happiest...don't do it for me anymore tbh...lost my mojo... same with fishing...rather watch my kids catching, than taking part myself 🤷‍♂️

So you’ve never had an ice bath mate ?

There is a lot of grip and shite spoken about them , personally they are very worthwhile doing , they alleviate heat in your joints , they can ease muscle injuries , when I lost rotation in my ankle , I used ice baths after exertion and that helped with regaining a little mobility back. I also entered recovery phase after exercise quicker and eased cramps ets , Helping to alleviate next day soreness and cramps as oppose to waiting on your body cooling down etc then beginning the process , it was as if the lactic acid etc had been charged outside my body , I don’t know about the true effects of all this as I used compression shorts and a tens machine as well but it certainly helped

what I will say that the idea you are recreating the effect of an ice bath with a cold shower is absolutely laughable. It’s like comparing a kids merry go round with a nasa space shuttle launch . If you properly immerse yourself the feeling of removal and into warm clothes is a fantastic thrill . I did a few last year but had facility to carry them out often with packs of ice into a cold bath prior , my skin became utterly translucently clean and I felt much more mobile and capable at work .

If nothing else , they help you develop resilience mentally as the first couple aren’t a pleasant experience .

a good way to do it is to leave the bath in after a normal one ,leave the water overnight or as long as it takes to go cold and throw a couple of bags from a frozen section in , farm foods do 2 kg packs for a quid I think , get in and slowly build your resistance to them

I've only had cold water baths and that's been after a over 10 mile run.

Seems to completely reset the muscles and it's almost as if its wiped the run from your muscle memory. Absolutely no aches or pains after it.

people believe and talk some shite lol

So you're saying you prefer a nice, hot relaxing shower over plunging in ice cold water, enough to leave you gasping for air and shivering like a shitting dog?

lol why would i cold shower ?

it will wake you up in a morning

but most just believe any old shite like stiffy lol

why would you ice bath an injury lol ffs that won’t help heal it

ice is good like to stop swelling etc when you first damage your ankle lol

but then i thought common sense that heat was better to recover repair

I am speaking from experience mate it obviously does something to help reset the muscles. I can assure you with just cold water on a hot day after a run it works. Ideally you need someone with you as you get into the bath as it's makes you feel like you want to pass out. You don't want to drown now do you.
