tatsblisters 10,933
Remember as a nipper watching the news when the Vietnam war was on some images stayed in young minds for a long time . Always remember that clip where they caught one of the fighters and some military official drew a revolver out and shot him in the head on the street.

Just googled the story behind it sounds like he got what he deserved. That other memorable clip from the veitnam war of that young girl running up the road with all the skin burnt off her back due to a napalm bombing. As the words in the song WAR absolutely good for nothing rings true.

In so much as the USA defeated GB in a proper war. The USA did not exist, it was an uprising in one of our colonies and the calculated decision was made to let them have their independence rather than commit too many resources and weaken our protection of India which was considered more valuable. Then we had a war with the USA a few years later when they tried to claim Canada and we kicked their arses.

It’s debatable, but the 13 colonies declared independence in 1776, and Washington became President of America. The war ended in 1783, so it was a win for America. We didn’t let them have independence, the British General Lord Cornwallis surrendered to the American Army at Yorktown in 1781 leading to the British Parliament voting to end the war and withdraw. so, at the beginning of the war, it was colonists rebelling, but by the end of the war it was an independent country defeating its former colonial master. Thats just the way I see it, others will have differing opinions, which I can respect while disagreeing. Cheers. 2

My basic, and I stress basic, understanding, is that when the French lent the support of their navy, with an eye on India, king George III, said f###k it, let them have it.Not willing to weaken our navel power on the other side of the Atlantic. Evidently King George was loathe to give up America and Parliament over ruled him. Theres a disputed saying supposedly from the Russian Czar “ I fear my cousin George has gone mad ! He should have given up London and kept the Americas “ ! Maybe not accurate or true, but definitely thought provoking ! Cheers.
