They seem to do ok on what I feed them & generally look ok on it too..top & bottom of it is they get nothing fancy at all & my day's of being bent over skinning/gutting all day & putting it through the old Hobart mincer are pretty much done..my only advice is this, whatever you feed,be pretty consistent with it & feed at the same time daily...& my biggest bit of advice if feeding kibble is this CHECK THE INGREDIENTS..if meat is NOT the first ingredient on there then rest assured it's rubbish no matter how good the packaging looks,if it states cereal that's the WORST of all followed closely by wheat & corn..you want to see a source of meat as the number one ingredient & when you see a bag of dog food with the word WITH 'Chicken etc' that means it has by UK law ONLY got to have a meat content of 4% and that can be by animal derivatives which could be anything or even worse just meat gravy..I know it's a minefield out there but don't be fooled by the marketing that many of these brands put out there.. anyways it's almost the weekend so have a good one folk's,watch how ya's go & stay safe whatever you're doing & wherever you go I remember seeing that mincer n you saying how many hares you put through it must be easier now but alot more expensive for you 1 Quote Link to post

I had to re-home either Boots or Fife when they were around a year old, initially they lived with me at my ex partners & when we parted ways unfortunately I had nowhere for both of them..I already had a kennel full of dog's here at home,Don,Swift,Sox,Reggie,Fenn etc so I had to let one go & as it transpired no one was interested in Boots,I never got one single person interested in him,I had over 40 people willing to take on Fife, truthfully he was the absolute apple of my eye. I was sickened to the core when he went,i was heartbroken & that's the truth. I couldn't sleep for weeks as I couldn't settle wondering if he was ok. Boots was light year's behind Fife in all & everything growing up & I honestly thought Boots was going to be a heap of shite. He was just so slow literally & also mentally but he was what I was 'burdened' with so I bit down on my gumshield & really put my everything into the dog. When he was 13 month's old he still hadn't caught a thing,I took him along on a camping trip up Scotland & on my way there I decided to try him behind a hare,I was expecting the whole experience to be embarrassing but I slipped him & unbelievably he caught it & retrieved it back to me,I was speechless,I was so speechless & didn't think anyone would believe me when I got home I put it under the spare wheel & drove about 400 miles up & around Scotland with it. We spent a couple of nights in the tent, just making him my pal so to speak, enroute home I thought what the hell I'll try him on another..I slipped him 5 times & he ran, caught killed & retrieved all 5 of them. He never looked back from that trip out,we had some unbelievable adventures over the year's we really did. A brilliant dog he was,I always say he wasn't the best at anything but he was handy at ANYTHING..teeth he would crack into no issues whatsoever,he took to ferreting like a duck to water,he took hundreds upon hundreds of hoof daytime & he managed treble figures onΒ our biggest quarry, every one of them took during the day..I often sit & wonder what Fife may of achieved had I kept him as he was far superior in all & everything to Boots alas I will never know. Boots could just of been a slow burner & or that Fife may of been a world beater but sadly he got ran over & killed instantly when out with his owner,he never got the opportunities I'd of liked to have seen him given but he had a wonderful home & at the end of the day I can now sleep easy knowing he was well cared for & had an owner who thought as much about him as I did.. there's no doubt that Boots wouldn't of got to do what he has had I kept Fife as like I said he was my golden boy & I was all for him & it would of been he who got the majority of the graft I'm certain of that bud. 6 2 Quote Link to post
