Popular Post South hams hunter 8,862 Posted May 31, 2023 Popular Post Report Share Posted May 31, 2023 Just sat in the airport waiting for a delayed plane so thought I'd throw a few photos up. The island itself is fairly uninhabited but is an absolute sanctuary for wildlife. We stayed in punta prima, the place was full of lizards and geckos as you'd imagine. We also hired a car and explored the east and north coast of the island. Bird wise we saw kites, turtle doves, vultures and hoopoe.the hoopoe are brilliant little characters to watch. We visited the nature reserve Es Grau with the hope of seeing a tortoise in the wild and by coming slightly off the beaten track we found what must have been close to 50 and even a few old nests. Any rock formation or 'creek' was full of beautiful wrasse, several species of bream, 3 species of mullet and many more fish that you could just swim over slowly and they wouldn't be disturbed at all by your presence. The 'zoo' is basically an exotics rescue with fairly open enclosures and the animals all being fairly tame. I actually got attacked by a cockatoo twice in a giant aviary. The girls handled snakes and snuck fruit from the hotel to feed the lemurs. 23 5 Quote Link to post Share on other sites

On the southern Side of the island when we went 2 years ago they were in the street like pigeons but this side we only saw them in the nature reserve 1 Quote Link to post Share on other sites
