I'd have no doubts about a GSP being able to handle deer if they could catch them. A mate had a pure and used him on feral goats and the dog would often break their necks.

Legend has it Levi caught a 14 pointer with 1 dog and carried it back to the car over his shoulder but that might not be true who knows
