Driven Pheasant shoots

That is true for the partridges and those who have good reliable game breeders are mostly ok the ones i know but i know a fella who just sold some 6 week old poults for £10 each and that was a thousand birds going down on 8000 acres as there the only birds that shoot could get,it is a shame as only the better off can afford the price rise per bird and most of them ain't countrymen or ever will be.Me myself it affects me not and as it goes i think feck em make them pay extra as all they do is come into the countryside to kill stuff and that ain't what it's about imo..Packem is doing a study of what a release of gamebirds does to native fauna and wildlife and them results will have a chance of changing things is his favour, the days of releasing game to shoot are numbered....

Packham should visit over here where keepered estates are not a thing and no shoots, small or otherwise, are keeping and releasing birds…..it’s a f***ing wildlife desert compared to the UK.

The shooting of pheasants in huge numbers by people who wouldn't know a dog or a ferret if one bit the end of their nose and the wholesale shooting of foxes with military hardware has put me off shoots. And that's coming from someone who has done plenty shooting and keepering

Couldn't agree more a big shoot near me has wiped out the foxes and has ruined the hunting. One of my favourite permissions that I ferreted for over 50 years the farmer a keen hunting man would give me the nod on the dates of meets there. No dates last year no Foxes. The farm was over run with stray Pheasants last year hammering the kale so him and his farm hands have started their own little shoot.

Cheers Arry

There is division within the countryside but the biggest problem is the division between the town and the countryside. Every year there are more townies and more voices that don't understand or accept what we do. And then they move into the countryside using their townie salaries like a f***ing cancer.

IMO hunting is f****d because the electorate think it's outrageous and should be consigned to history. Driven shooting won't be many decades behind for the exact same reason.

So out of curiosity since I'm not 100% on how things work over there , vague idea but don't want to act like I have a concrete understanding, is shooting goes tits up what happens to the keepers exactly?

Bring more into the fold  f***ing hell, have you seen the size of the UK!? There's a lad on here that walks from one coast to the other on a morning coursing!

There are ten million of them in the capital alone. Playing the numbers game in that way is a losing battle. We need to win hearts and minds, not get more folks in the fields imo.

Same thing I'm my book for the most part. Honestly from doing outreach work it's hard to do one without the other it seems. Get the woods in the right people

Other wise anyone with a better story can get in them

I’d say that’s a brilliant post and very true.

Telling people the truth is hard, when you say “if we don’t all start getting our act together we are dead, period !” Is a message many people don’t want to hear for one reason or another.

See, most stuff is run by committee be that a local club or a national field sports organisation and committeemen are the poison in the well of decisive action…..there’s always someone playing to the beat of their own drum or not willing to sacrifice their own good thing for the greater good.
