His name was Muhammad not Mohamed. What's his name? Get it right or  "you'll make it really hard on yourself" if you were to meet him in the ring.?.

I don't agree his greatest fight was against Foreman. His trilogy with Frasier are the fights which make the hair on the back of my neck stand up.

They were fighting for supremacy and pride. Sportsmen at the top of their game. Those fights will still be played hundreds of years from now.

I would think Foreman would probably be seen as his greatest accomplishment in terms of the hurdle in front of him but for me he wasnt just " The Greatest " because of those Frazier/Foreman/Norton etc victories but even the fighters of that era who didnt become champions and big names guys like Shavers and Ron Lyle,Jerry Quarry etc.....had that not been the strongest era in heavyweight history they would of been champions and household names but Ali dealt with them relatively easily......he was a phenomenal fighter when you weigh it all up.

I read a thing a while back nash about how Mike Tyson was actually terrified of George foreman. even into the twilight of his career the idea of ever getting into the ring with him set Tyson off in rages against the idea.

it explained part of it was how George saw through the whole street thug persona and knew how to push his buttons .

kinda puts Ali’s achievements into perspective really for lads of my age who never seen Ali fighting really .

tyson didn’t want the fight with foreman because cus damato always told him a george foreman  would a been all wrong for him not thinking he would make a comeback in later years

Olympic gold medallist, 2 time world champion,81 professional fights, beat Joe Frazier for the title in 2 rounds, lost to Ali in 1974. In the 90s he beat michael moorer for the title, george was 45yrs old, 19yrs older than moorer, went 12 rounds with the great Evander Holyfield, and the like of Tommy Morrison, shannon briggs not bad for a man in his mid forties. He's 73 yrs old now looks and sounds good for it, cut from a different cloth.

Didnt know that mate thats interesting.....i was never much af a Tyson fan i always felt he had quit in him....but as a character later on in life i quite admire his honestly i think he knows himself really well and doesnt shy away from his frailties as a fighter......i always thought he struggled with height and movement but Foreman i think he would of just struggled with the sheer brute force of the man....and yes the fact ol George wouldnt have been intimidated by bad man Mike would have put the writing on the wall in my opinion......i only really remember Ali's later career but he was something else mate.

Mike Tyson seems to divide opinion. For me he was a bully who could dish it out but buckled when he was put under pressure. He bit Holyfield to get out of the fight, and was totally psyched out by Lennox Lewis. At the Lewis  press conference he launched an  hysterical attack on Lewis and bit him on the leg. He literally quit on his stool against a journeyman. I never saw him win a fight from a losing position or when he'd been knocked down. He did not win any fights against class opposition.

So lacking champion true mentality and not a great advocate for his people imo. I cannot understand the adoration he gets from both black and white fans.

If I was Tyson Fury I would change my name. For me it would be an embarrassment to carry his name.

Tyson was 1 of the most exciting fighters thats ever lived, you say he never beat anyone anygood, meaning ali, foreman, frazier i suppose? You can only beat them that are around at the time. You people that are stuck in the Ali or Hagler era need to move on.

Why so excited? Calm down.  Your last sentence is fair comment. I do judge boxers by the best I have seen throughout my life. So M Tyson doesn't figure at all. Doesn't mean I am stuck in the past.Present day fighters: Canello, Usyk and Golovkin are right up there in terms of absolute class imo.

I agree he was an exciting fighter due to the menace he brought to the ring....but once you get past all that you can only judge fighters by the other great fighters they fought and the 2 great fighters Tyson fought he lost to quite convincingly.

Im exciting just like tyson? as the greatest era in heavyweight boxing ( Ali's) ended, tysons began so it was always going to be uphill for old tyson.

I think lewis was all wrong for tyson tbh, holyfield another great, no shame in losing to them.

Good post that....i always put the adoration Tyson received down to impressionable youngsters.....his wildness and aura was perfect for the era when young men could watch boxing for free on Itv its always struck me how either older gents like yourself,or young chaps today dont really rate Tyson in terms of greatness.....yet middle aged men who were maybe teenagers in the Tyson reign wont hear a bad word said against him ?

As a fighter i always thought Tyson was great at what he was great at and that was his physical speed/power along with his mental intimidation ive spoken to old folk who say he brought a similar menace to what Sonny Liston brought in his era.

Totally agree with the way he quit on Holyfield, like i say i saw that quit in him from long before that and always felt the first tough test he had he would fold.....theres a really good interview with Teddy Atlas on youtube ive watched before where he speaks brilliantly on this subject i'll have a look for it.
