Swallows stay put through the winter

BirdTrack has received almost a hundred reports of up to 12 individual Swallows in Britain & Ireland between January 1 and February 1. Most have been seen in the warmer south and south-west of Britain, and also in Ireland. The change in behaviour is one of the most remarkable signs yet of the warming world being caused by climate change. The Swallow is not the only bird being affected by global warming, our  recent report on British birds and Climate Change indicated that a quarter of British breeding species might be negatively affected – with the Puffin, likely to disappear completely. Help us track these changes by adding your sightings to BirdTrack.

Funny I hear the geese going the opposite way, probably saw them setting off a few weeks ago as I’m only 2 miles from slimbridge ?

10th of april is earlist ive seen them in south devon, have to look better

I'd always thought we'd get them later than you guys in the south, but we get them in middle to late March regularly in South Scotland.

Certainly  enough insect life for them this week.
