Maybe that’s why coursing clubs had hare stewards and call a meet off instead of killing inferior hares that lacked the minerals but the killers like a trophy any how ? did any of the hare killers zip one open to check it’s muscle fat content ? Nah fk that put them in the pile of 3 from 3 or 5 from 5 yep

Yeah, the dog didn't look like he was close to catching the hare did he.

But the thing is Lucas was a fast type, wouldn't a slower dog with more stamina have lost the hare quicker in cover though cos that's where he did.

not really mate some may be steady but there fast still with that the dog needed to get there stay a few foot off and not loose it or keep loosing loads a ground to make up then get stronger after 3 or 4 mins

easy to loose a hare  in cover once the dogs tired mate but some types won’t be shook off in cover easy

if every one’s going 3 mins plus it’s a steady type i agree mate

i just think when you hit that one that’s flying out of the turns 3 minutes in it has to be run down the fast types wouldn’t hold on and still be going at 5 or 6 min mark

speaking of lucas in this thread a good dog mint order but that one in bully match pulled dog all over was the type i mean mate killed 1st hare and the 3 rd hare but only the execeptional dogs would a stopped that second hare ripping out of turns

Basically I'm saying even a top hare can make a mistake and be killed

. But yeh , agree the best hares are still not under control even at 3 mins . As for lucas . Dog was top notch by all accounts even if I personally have no time for owner . The dog was immaculate and a real killer.  Tell me.do you think bully woulda stopped the lucas on a real hare hare ?

well I can only give you my experience, the ground I ran my dog or dogs on was were the Scottish coursing of scotland ran

here in Annan,  and these Hares were reported to be the best in the country, the blood was mixed from Altcar (Waterloo cup was held, and, Huntingdon, a crate of Hares went down to those places and another crate came back up from those places, to keep the blood strong, The trainers of the greyhound all said these are the hares, and the travelling lads who ran there dogs there will tell you the same story.

up Here you need a dog to be up at the Hare and apply pressure right from the start, and one that can use his gears and when you have that type its poetry in motion, oh able to jump bad fences as well, A friend of mine has bred from some good dogs, with success, wee Bob ( from Longtown)  Pepsi= I have a dog now he is 3 Pepsi is grand sire, and Franny, again bred good pups with success, and Lucas, the bitch bred from Lucas was first class, some good dogs there

Used to go huntingdon with Abe Stanley in the late 80s

But dogs like Lucas are known as real fast types mate as in fast even for coursing types mate, he was struggling to keep up with that hare right from the start.

You think a steadier type would have kept close enough to not lose it in cover mate?

Can't agree in steady types being as fast . They ain't mate . Some just fall far from the tree . Simples . However some siblings can have totally different styles.  Look at woolys , they tend to be slower etc

i don’t think a steady type will have more difficulty keep up with a hare then a fast type mate just run different ?
