i think a strong hare winter isnt going over unless its run down mate

Agree and disagree mate . A top dog will be testing a real good winter boy regularly.  Forcing a mistake if possible.  Yeh Geoff was good lad . Hills was a good site . But imho , a good dog kills anywhere.  Stock broken,  taught to jump wire , if the dog has good gears , brain and good steam , should kill anywhere in UK

The do if they are bashed on plough at the end of someone's toe lol . And again , I tend to disagree to an extent . If a dog forces a mistake and hare gets outdone.  How will we ever know it was / wasn't a gooden.  I chuckle when I hear this . How many have been put up and owner is standing there thinking,  here we go . Dog looks a superstar for 60 seconds.  Shoulda put it away a couple of times.  Then little hare gives himself a shake and pulls said dog all over the land . Now imho,  that hare would be talked about as a real un . Whereas he coulda been caught in 50 seconds with a sharp killer.  We will never know.  You can only catch them once , pre ban of course lol

That's it really, how do we know that many of the hares that are caught quickly by a fast dog aren't really good hares?

At the end of the day the dog is faster than the hare, shit happens, a 5 minute grueller could have been quite easily a quick pick up on another day.

the strong uns rip out the turns from the off mate make gaps on the fastest dogs take a few minutes for fast dogs to get sat in and it will have to sit in or it will get undone it’s self

fast types won’t kill these hares only the bottomless relentless dogs will mate

well I can only give you my experience, the ground I ran my dog or dogs on was were the Scottish coursing of scotland ran

here in Annan,  and these Hares were reported to be the best in the country, the blood was mixed from Altcar (Waterloo cup was held, and, Huntingdon, a crate of Hares went down to those places and another crate came back up from those places, to keep the blood strong, The trainers of the greyhound all said these are the hares, and the travelling lads who ran there dogs there will tell you the same story.

up Here you need a dog to be up at the Hare and apply pressure right from the start, and one that can use his gears and when you have that type its poetry in motion, oh able to jump bad fences as well, A friend of mine has bred from some good dogs, with success, wee Bob ( from Longtown)  Pepsi= I have a dog now he is 3 Pepsi is grand sire, and Franny, again bred good pups with success, and Lucas, the bitch bred from Lucas was first class, some good dogs there

I was running them for 40 year mate . I know exactly what a strong un is . But I've also seen an electric dog bamboozle a hare that was flying early . Making me wonder " was he a real un " but he made one mistake and payed price , whereas a steadiier type wasn't pressuring enough to capitalise on the hares one mistake . So no ond can say it wasn't a real un . Just like we can't say otherwise.  Also been out pre ban and one dogs consistently catching at 2/3 mins and others at 4/5 mins constantly.  To me the steadiier type owner can't surely be thinking he's riding all the goodens and the faster type constantly hitting duds . . Yes proper slop suits slower types in general.  But again , mother nature doesn't keep the rain falling for them lol . Its all opinions pal

if every one’s going 3 mins plus it’s a steady type i agree mate

i just think when you hit that one that’s flying out of the turns 3 minutes in it has to be run down the fast types wouldn’t hold on and still be going at 5 or 6 min mark

speaking of lucas in this thread a good dog mint order but that one in bully match pulled dog all over was the type i mean mate killed 1st hare and the 3 rd hare but only the execeptional dogs would a stopped that second hare ripping out of turns
