Talking Of Millwall And All That ....

Recommended Posts

Serious question: Has anyone ever written a study of 'Football Hooligans' which has been accepted by 'both sides'. I.e Academia and the Lads themselves?

Reason I ask is that it struck me, the other night; " What makes 'Millwall' such a formidable beast?

Honestly, my only experience / knowledge of all that stuff comes from " The Rise Of The Footsoldier " and the old NEL paperbacks, about Joe Hawkins. I've never had the least interest in football, or kicking anyone's head in over it. Thus I can't even name another 'Crew', for comparison.

Vaguely fascinates me though. Carlton Leach clearly shitting himself; " Fukk Me!!! It's The Millwall!!! ". As this bunch of far sighted lunatics, wearing their paper masks, line the platform. That iconic vision of the overhead unsheafing machete. Pure class!

The living God Of War which is Roy Larner demonstrably shows us that these loons are no fukking faerie tale! They walk among us!

So, how do they do it? I'm pretty much guessing that " Millwall " represents some part of London? Like " Chelsea ". But, what happens?

The SAS are a bit of a handful. But, it takes a bit to get with them. How does one become a Millwall Crew Member?

And, we can take it from there. Thanks :)

I'm Not a big fan of Millwall. I'm Not holding them up against any other 'crew'. I'm most certainly Not trying to get any backs up. They're just topical, here, at the moment.

What I'd really like to read is a decent and academically based review of is how 'Crews'  formed and recruited.  Like, sorry but; " Well, yer just turned up and kicked the shit out of de uvver lot! " won't do.

I don't want paper back memoires of " Cass " and so forth. I'd rather a more objective view.

Cheers.

Ffs grubby ,you travelled hours with the intention of knocking fuk out of someone on tinterweb !

I remember our last game against Millwall at Upton Park silly fuckers in their 40's parading around on the pitch with a big flabby darby hanging over their trousers covered in West Ham tattoos with th

Have a little listen to this ol boy Ken....its a nice little interview,no lies and bullshit like most of them....it'll give you a better idea of what it was all about....good ol chap Bill ? https

I don’t think it’s particularly a Millwall thing, working class areas have always had groups of lads.

London, the Midlands, the north, Glasgow.

Rough old areas, industrial areas, heavy industry, poverty (historically)........hard work, hard conditions.

Boxers are normally street lads.......it’s just go’s with the territory so to speak.

I read the book that was done about us by silly Billy  I remember a few incidents mentioned nothing like what was wrote and most of the time the author of his mates weren't to be seen but the one that really cracked me spurs away ? talk about bigging a tale up made us sound like something out the sas when in reality we got a kicking for being a bit cheeky but he made a few quid

" Firms ". Thanks. See? I don't even know the right terminology.

But, please, take the time to read my post and if anyone knows of such a discussion, I'd be, passingly,  interested. Thanks.

You can delve a lot deeper/earlier but basically it's tribal eg Millwall/W. Ham, rival dockers, Celtic /Rangers, religion etc etc Football hooliganism has been around a lot longer than people think albeit not necessarily in the bovver boys, Joe Hawkins skinhead stylee.

Cheers, D.

Thanks, again.

Yes. Unfortunately, narrowing it down further to my actual post ...?

I was sat here, trying to keep half an eye on that video, as I cocked my ear to the speaker. Trying like fukk to decipher a word said, whilst catching images of 'Trainers'.

This is why I'm asking about a Book, see? I can barely hear shit.  Maybe, given a book lead, I can find a Kindle sort of copy I can blow up to comfortably readable size?

I’ve always said it takes a certain type of person to actually cause physical harm to another person whether that be in a boxing ring, local pub on a Saturday or at the football.

Most of the “football hooligans” now and even back in the day have never thrown a punch in anger. Look at the youtube clips there are 2 or 3 on both sides who actually go “toe to toe” the rest shout, posture and throw glasses indiscriminately.

Most of the top firms like Millwall and West Ham just simply had a bigger group of lads that were that “certain type of person”, the rest had the mouthy stand behind the police glass throwers.
