chartpolski 28,018
I remember walking into Toke about 7:30 one morning to buy a pint of milk, and there was a pub, the Blue Lagoon I think it was, long gone now, and it was full of bushmen, farmers, Maoris, etc, all drinking. I went in and it all went quiet. The barman was a Maori , that big he made Jonah Lomu look anorexic ! He asked me where I was from, I told him I'd just come from Saudi Arabia and was visiting family. That broke the ice, I had a couple of Lion Reds and a bacon sandwich for breakfast then bid them fairwell and walked home. My sister in law is a bit prim and proper, and when I told her where I'd been, she almost had a fit ! " nice people don't go in those places" she told me , with a scowl ! I rather enjoyed it ! LOL ! Cheers. Edited November 1, 2020 by chartpolski 1 Quote Link to post
toolebox 1,626
Out and about last week the pup in the foreground is a 6 month old beagle x foxy that's just started her working adventures & shes loving it all .Mac the black & white dog to the right is one I bred, a whippet terrier mix who has that x factor, given a little more age and rabbits he's shaping up to be a champ. 1 Quote Link to post

I was reading something Brian brinded wrote and he saying you could only take ferrets from feral "wild" stock and tame them up and that was only way by law in Nz to keep ferrets at that time . I thought exactly the same.....google tells me that apparently pet ferrets are banned but if you are a pest controller you can obtain a permit to own them purely for the hunting of rabbits 2 Quote Link to post
chartpolski 28,018
Ferrets were imported into NZ in their thousands and released into the wild to deal with the rabbit population explosion. Like the introduction of non native species everywhere, not enough thought went into it. The ferrets found that native species like the kiwi were easier to catch than a rabbit, and were just as tasty ! Cheers. Quote Link to post

What’s the other things on the truck with the rabbits? Quote Link to post
