Born Hunter 17,974
2% case fatality rate folks.... usually because the patient already has a weakened state of health. Frankly I can't believe it's even made the news. Edited February 27, 2020 by Born Hunter Confused mortality rate with case fatality rate.

You and my daughter both mate, though I believe Spanish flu only had a mortality rate of 3% and that killed 50 million, this one has already surpassed the sars virus for mortality and we are about 2/3 months away from getting a vaccine according to medical company’s working on it, I,m still living in hope it wipes out half the planet, the knock on effect has not even started in regard to business but it’s looking to start having big impacts from late feb, I,m involved in importing car parts from China to supply jaguar land rover, I do the equivalent of around 2000 cars a week and when the stock I have left in the warehouse is gone it will stop production and I imagine there are a lot of others in simular situations, I,ve been told if it’s already sailed I will get more but all exports from China are on stop

And according the wikipedia it had a second outbreak (H1N1) in 2009 with very different consequences. That's what I keep getting at with these pandemics that everyone gets doom mongery over, 'we' have progressed to a level that is just a bit too good at dealing with these things. In the absence of our knowledge of infectious disease then we could expect this coronavirus to kill a few million, sure, but as evidenced by history, with modern science and technology we can seriously mitigate these pandemics. I get my daily updates from this dude, so if I,m wrong blame him my main interest is not worry or fear but hope, I would really love to live in a post pandemic world and am willing to take my chances to have a few years living as I feel I should, with no modern conveniences and no one to blame except me, if I can’t track and trap my lunch I don’t eat and if I can’t start a fire I freeze, I no it’s a dream but time waits for no man and I have more sand in the bottom of my life egg timer than the top so if I’m going to see life as I want it I have to hope it takes a good hold soon

We're getting the stereotypical Yank over-reaction to this. Face masks flying off the shelves to turned up to 11 paranoia. NPR is basically telling everyone to calm down as regular flu has already killed 8000 people this season alone and that number is still going up. I'm sure flame throwers for sanitation will be appearing on the shelves soon.

Like the film Outbreak.
