Do children actually use pens, pencils, chalk or anything like that anymore. Still I suppose that it is better than a lump of coal and years ago blimey if you got an orange and a couple of nuts; well you were grateful that you got anything. How things have changed. One of my niece's said that she took something that was finished to the tip and within five minutes of being there she saw several bikes like new thown in the pile. All ready for new ones at christmas. I'm not buying any crap for christmas. No: I've bought a new Browning for my eleven year old granddaughter. She hasn't got a ticket to hold one and she isn't big enough to hold it let alone use it but I'll keep it in stock for her. I'm sure she'll love it. 3

Outofnowhere 93
Like most I was sick and tired of the commercialism of Christmas so a couple of years back I made a stand. I announced I was not going to buy my granddaughters more toys to make the pile bigger in their rooms. I decided I would buy them a life skill and have funded the eldest's swimming lessons to teach her to swim. Its cost me a fortune but every Sunday for the past two years; off we go to the local baths. She loves it, can swim and dive in. My work is done. This year its the youngest's turn at 3 years old. She's been going with her sister every now and then and loves it and so this year I'm buying her swimming lessons. 12
