Recommended Posts

My pals got his fac and has got a .25 at 30ftlb is that enough power to be carrying a 25 grain pellet compared to a .22 16 grain doing say 20ftlb ? Is had a couple of .25 sub 12 but not enough to advise him if more power is needed ??? Any help appreciated off you fac lovers ?

changed the ftlb to 30 and this is what its come up with.. it won't be bang on for your mates setup cos of scope height n stuff but the power figures will more or less

be on the money and it recons your mates will still be carrying 12.5ftlb at 100yards so if you can hit it in the right spot it'll fall over

Personally I don't think that is going to get the best out of a .25 fac running at 30fpe. it would be far better around 45 - 50 fpe to get a flatter trajectory. Most Impacts run at 47fpe and the .22 at around 28 - 30fpe.

They do but a.22 I think would be better than .25 at 30ftlb but with his key mags at about 21grain in .22 and 25 grain .25 I couldn't get my head round it but thinking about it and other opinions think it could be a bit low

I run my .25 @ 47 ft/lbs with 25gr pellets and .22 @ with 18gr pellet @ 31.3 ft/lbs

Both at 71 yards  one mildot hold over ,both are about the same hold over out to about 115 yards .I shoot on 8x with .25 and 6x with .22

.25 @71 yards 27.5 ft/lbs energy  left

.22 @71 yards 17 .5 ft/lbs energy left

This is my set up

What does he actually want to do with it?

Like it or not .25 is pretty specialised, its not the gun you buy simply for a bit of fun, if you want a .25 you usually have a reason, rather than buying one and then looking for a reason!

A .25 at 30ft lb carries a fair bit of clout, but it still depends what you want to clout with it, if 30ft will be enough!

Every gun and every calibre has a use, sometimes that use can be quite specific, other times quite versatile.

A .25 at 30ft isn't versatile, but the OP may have a use for it that it is ideally suited for, until we know what that is its rather difficult to comment about it compared to the .22 he mentioned!

I was thinking that something like a twenty grain .25 pellet at around 35/36 ft lbs might be a good set up?  I don’t think I’d have much need for an air rifle much more powerful than that, as it would start to get near to reduced load rimfire ammo, like z Lang’s for example. I’d be interested to have a bit of a play with something like an fx crown in .25 though, to see how different weight .25’s perform at different power levels. May be on my shopping list?.
