Good post,

but I wouldn’t say United were in that bad a state when fergie took over

they were in the shadow of Liverpool , (who wasn’t?) probably Everton , and maybe forest at a push

but they are man united , they’ve never been a pub team in reality

Ferguson was due to be sacked before Mark Robins scored 'that goal" in Jan 1990 good job they kept faith with him!

Cheers, D.

No ones saying your a pub team max , but when fergie took over at United , let’s not say they were in a pit as they weren’t.  United were a very decent side in their own right . Yes saf took them

My pub team Stiff look like selling 45k on Boxing Day v Bradford City

Then 6 days later taking 8k away to Blackpool on New Years Day.

Not bad for a pub team ?

United were a very decent side in their own right . Yes saf took them into a new stratosphere, but surely sky , the premier league and the formation of the champions league hugely advantaged united financially as the champions during that era.

Point to note , the only team who could really compete with them was Blackburn, bankrolled by a millionaire

Hardly max

the fa didn’t exactly help themselves

personally the f a cup is overrated, it’s a nause for lower league teams  fixtures, the “magic” of the cup is a nightmare for a lot of small clubs.

The police bill outweighs the draw of a middling tier two side, ask any chairman

Max , the champions league is not for the winners of cup completions

it’s for those teams who have performed best in their respective league

no one gives a f**k about the cup anymore

it’s pocket money in a world of multi million dollar deals

I do agree that the f a cup should mean more , but I lost interest the moment they rebuilt Wembley

the cup is just one thing left behind , much like national leagues will be in our lifetime .

and those with a sky subscription are as much to blame imho as United are in yours
