One for the army bods

Recommended Posts

I'm watching a show called my fighting season about American troops in Afghanistan and was wondering why they don't send a dedicated sniper out on each patrol? I understand the theory of suppressive fire but as well as everybody rattling hundreds of rounds in the general direction surely having one marksman would make sense to actually kill the bad guy!

An infantry sniper is a superior soldier of immense skill and an expert shot ... they are also very handsome charismatic and have a very large penis and can make love for hours at a time ???

Air gunner ,top plinker ,camo jacket ,22 pellet .....job done .

dedignated marksman born?

LOL, alright that might be the wrong term. I was under the impression the mod bought a load of semi auto rifles in 308 to equip some troops with to give a patrol a longer range capability. Might be totally wrong, hence the question marks!

As am I .

Some of the comments are a bit inexperienced or outdated .

Snipers are an asset. They are a specialist role , however no dark art or special maverick types .

Just goid disciplined soldiers who can shoot and draw.

A sniper is a fantastic asset for fibua as they generally have a better panoramic and superior sighting capabilities from an overwatch and can direct movement , identify targets etc.

Yes, Marksmen are better than average shots to give better long range capability as you say. Snipers are a different kettle of fish. These guys shoot from huge ranges (over a mile). Pretty much Special Forces.

Aye I wasn't suggesting they were or anything, just thought it was pertinent to the topic.

They must also be cool, calm and collected. Likely the reason why the greatest of all time was a Finn. ?

johny you’ve made my night , snipers special forces!!

I’m sure socks or deerman will correct me if I’m wrong here.

Most infantry recruits after depot go into a rifle coy,  after a while they can attend cadres eg if they’ve expressed an interest in patrols or mortars or sniping they attend a cadre ran by the department when required .

If succesful , they will be posted into support coy .

Support coy is pretty special lol . They generally hold the “more special platoons “  of a battalion

anti tanks

patrols

snipers or as some have it Istar

and my personal favourite , mortars.

Now snipers form a fantastic asset to any coy or batt.

They are specialist soldiers . Not special forces. No more than a Sigs bowman spec or a royal engineers eod high threat op

in fact probably less so .
