What a c**t

One of the horrors currently surfacing in the US is the amount of sexual assaults that go on against people with intellectual disabilities. They're reckoning that the assaults are 7 to 1 more prevelant than against people without disabilities. It's a horrible thought that for everyone we know about there could be countless more horrific crimes that we don't.

I take my hat off to anyone who gives up there job home & life to care for a parent or parents without any '' outside'' help , imagine trying to get an elderly parent to a GP with full blown dementia because you wont get a GP come to the home , imagine singly handed being on duty 24/7 ,  giving personal care , changing incontinence pads , moving & lifting , making your house 100% safe , feeding a parent a soft diet because they have forgotten how to '' swallow''  I guarantee it will be the most physically , mentally & emotionally  demanding job you have ever done & by the time its over your to burned out to relax , seriously you would have to be superman to achieve that lot for more than a few months without any help

I worked as a carer for years 12 hour night  shifts of full on elderly mental illness,  washing shit of the feet of a lovely old dear, wiping the contents of her pad off the wall... doing a full bed change while the other carer showered her , getting her back into a clean bed all washed & comfortable for her to need a second shower 2 hours later. all this at stupid oclock.

God I loved that job in all seriousness its one of the most rewarding jobs you will ever do , care jobs are low pay & bloody hard work & anyone who abuses there position needs dealing with, there is no excuse for '' elder abuse''  your in the wrong profession , there is a protection of vulnerable adults register  ''POVA '' that's supposed to be a safety net & all care providers should check it while waiting for a full CRB check to come back which like any check is only as good as the day its done

What a bitch, I hope she gets old and suffers a similiar fate.

My Mrs does carer work, and has had two disiplinaries for reporting abuse, both times the accused got away with it, even though it was witnessed by the Mrs on the first occasion, and her and another carer on the second, after an in house investigation she was reprimanded for falsely accusing him.

The investigation was a joke, the company don't care about it, they are in it for the mega bucks it brings in, not welfare.

The same guy also had 3 reports of sexual harassment from female staff, the company just brushed it all under the carpet and he kept his job, he was also a lecturer at a college,

To sum up, 5 allegations by numerous different people and nowt done, and he is working in care with vulnerable people, the system is a joke.

I would tell you his name if I knew how to spell it..............................................................

Had a similar thing happen to me when I left my first care job to do one with adults with autism. I reported a carer for making a lad in his 20's stand outside in nowt but an incontinence pad , I was made to feel like I had done summat wrong.

2 years ago the homes where closed by the care commission  , I worked at '' the bungalow'' the manager was only bothered about having to have '' more inspections'' after I complained, she was a bitch who I could have cheerfully decked , it makes my blood boil

Not as a job but at home ,Adam my autistic stepson was in pads till he was toilet trained about mid teens, he had to wear a body suit at night that buttoned at the back otherwise he could empty it out on his bed/walls. The people that think it's a job just driving round in a car checking the old people are awake ,alive an they just got to have a cuppa with them must have hell of a shock.(not saying all carers think that)

One of the females I looked after had to wear long arm bands to stop her from thumping herself in the head, its very challenging dealing with behaviours like this , I got to go home after my shift but I can imagine how hard it is day in day out

He's 18 now leaves school in July , hoping to get him in national star college,he's not to bad now after puberty , I find him easier to deal with than his older brother who's has aspergers and is more able to function better.

3 of the 5 I cared for where '' low functioning'' apart from the hand flapping & pacing behaviour I found there care more straightforward than the other 2 who where more aware of there surroundings & I also found them harder to deal with due to the constant high staff turnover  all the changing was to much for them to process & shifts became a battle ground , its a hard job aint it

Yeah they need structured routine but also can get fixated on one person which can cause issues on holidays/sick days .
