Get on top of all stock breaking asap and sooner from horses to cats.
Get the dog used to having its feet messed with regular so you can keep nails short and avoid or at least help avoid toe injuries 
Get saving for vet bills and expect to spend half the season with the dog recovering from some disaster or another.
From the word go don't let the dog get into any daft habits you don't want to deal with later on 
I know these things because I made a right hash brown of mine
