Guest Navek
Nothing in this world beats shooting squirrels with a 410.. a flask of tea, pocket full of carts , and a dog running about keeping them movin...sport of kings ?? Quote Link to post
Born Hunter 17,631
...but many winter dreys are virtually “armour-platted” with branches and twigs and well padded with leafy material, giving a blanketing effect against shot. To destroy these we have tried chain shot and even harpoons without success. Explosives or incendiary charges are out of the question owing to fire risk, and the spherical ball cartridge is not sufficiently accurate at 90ft or more. Occasionally the effect of a .22 bullet hitting or passing through the drey will evict and sometimes kill an occupant, but more often than not a single .22 bullet has little effect. Different times! Squirrel shooting is the sport of kings. I'd rather have a big day in mature woodland on the squirrels in January with a couple of good lads and a dog or two than the equivalent on driven grouse on a moor. The crack is second to none! The one 8,396
Theres a drey at work on the avenue leading to the main reception this things huge looks unstable hanging over the road , im waiting on it falling on a bus , then .Oh we dont have the money to close the road and get a cherry picker in to remove it wont apply when health and safety get involved Quote Link to post
forest of dean redneck 11,189
Just threw sticks at dreys when younger no different than throwing sticks at horse chestnut trees to get the conkers down ? 2 Quote Link to post
cragman 2,635
Lads, if you’re shooting the dreys out, check what’s in them before you shoot ? 2 Quote Link to post
