Preparing For Winter

Just a quickie as the days are shortening and the nights getting longer time to get the old burner ready for action, I burn lots of rubbish and as a consequence get a lot of soot and the sticky tar like stuff that comes down in lumps, I have my own rods and brush the chimney twice a year, but just took the boss out shopping and found this thing only a couple of quid, I,m not naive enough to believe it will clean my chimney but after sweeping was going to give it a whirl to remove the bits left after sweeping, so I was wondering if anyone has used them if they think it worked or is it just another modern con for lazy tight asses that think a £2 log will save them calling the sweep out at £50 a pop or getting off the couch and doing it themselves ???

all insurance company,s use every ruse in the book not to pay out mate so I expect nothing and row my own boat, if I were stupid enough to burn my house down I,d rebuild it I do pay my house insurance incase of a tsunami or meteor attack but I don't worry to much about dancing to there tune

As we have had lots of BBQ pics through the warmer months here is one of my winter fav,s woodburner not compulsory get a round loaf and a Camembert slice the top off the loaf and sit the Camembert on the flat surface and cut round it, put your fingers in and pull out the circle of bread the same size and shape as the Camembert butter the inside of the bread with lashings of garlic butter including the lid, I have lined this one with Serrano ham as well but that's me trying something new and is not compulsory cut the skin off the top of the Camembert and sit it in the hole rap it in foil and either sit it on the wood burner or whack it in the oven for about half an hour then use the centre of the bread you removed to dip in the runny cheese then break the lid up and dip that it's gorgeous

Think I'll be grabbing myself some camembert and a round loaf tomorrow.

still eat them love an empire biccy. Gregs do a good one. In fact someone fom here was down in Edinburgh on thurs and got them to bring me up 2. There not a gregs up here.

Some folk call them german biscuits for some reason.

So I guess more people have used a small lad than the stove and chimney sweeping log then, not the best review I,ll try it later and do a review for others though it,s currently 20 degree,s with the doors and windows open so a bit reluctant to fire it up, the cheesie loaf went down a treat especially when my internet and tv went down for the evening so we sunk a couple of wines dunked cheese and played cards till midnight lovely evening with no modern gizmo,s

I'd go with modern con, mate. I've used a few similar 'logs' mainly for the kids to get a fire going when I'm at work. They're convenient though. Now they're older we just do it the traditional way. The only thing I stick in the fire beside the traditional fuel is one of these.

Fire logs are ok. 3 for a fiver also get those packs of hotties. There ok for a quick fire burn for about 2 hours.

In fact got a wee fire on the go right now with them.
