Greengrass 208
I,ve been looking through old fights on you tube tonight , heavyweights especially. In my opinion not one of the champions around now could lace the boots of boxers in the late 70s early 80s, note I,m not including the Ali era when he was at himself, Gerry Cooney would have battered that useless big p***y that keeps on trying to keep his name in the frame upside down, no doubt about it, yes Cooney was beaten by Holmes but they were two proper guys going at it, there is no chance fury could live a couple of rounds with either of them and I,lol add Joshua would not last either
Blackbriar 8,569
Today's heavyweights wouldn't live with Ernie Shavers or George Foreman - both easily capable of knocking any opponent into the middle of next week !

darbo 4,779
Cooney was a decent heavyweight with a lot of power but he could not cope with the power of big george. https://youtu.be/hSETeDS1fDk
darbo 4,779
Big George wouldn't be considered big in today's heavyweight world. The older heavy weights wouldn't be big enough to compete with todays So george foreman at 6ft 3 18 stone would not be big enough. In my opinion someone like him would go through the current crop of heavyweights no trouble.

Mind you, the late Jerry Quarry could give out a good dig, too..... As for Big George, he's an old man now, but I still would want him to him me twice !
neil cooney 10,416
And don't forget that those boys fought 15 3 minute rounds back then with refs not stopping bouts if a fighter took 2 or 3 to the head. They say Ali would take 10 to the head while lying on the ropes to catch his breath. And it was no secret that Cooney had a glass jaw.

In today's heavyweight scene hed just be called George We certainly dont share opinions each to there own.

rob284 1,682
Id have tyson fury beating plenty of the greats. Doesnt mean tyson is better though. Its a different era and different weight class now. For me the best boxing is in the welterweight and middleweight classes.
