Recommended Posts

OK I was reading a book on running dogs in the u.s the man that write it was talking about a greyhound stockdog x and talked about how it would be a good catch dog in the East so in the eastern parts of America you are talking about heaver cover more hills I was wondering if anyone knows of any reason a lurcher would do better in land like this

If your only running foxes I'd have the bullcross infant I'd have the bullcross anyway

Caught the biggest coyote we have ever caught Monday. He weighed 43 pounds and was all man.

Smaller, heavier set type compared to the sighthound based coyote/jack rabbit dogs you have over there, just like over here collie crosses are used to work with ferrets on hill farms, pasture land etc, and sighthound based dogs are more commonly worked on the big arable land

Cool I have always thought it would be cool to hunt with lurchers but most of the open country around here is Land that has been cleared for mining or paster land so 50-100 yards and anmals can be under cover would be interested what kind of x you all would recommend for fox if you did not have the ban to deal with

Remember seeing some photos of pit x greys being worked to coyote, looked lighter, and more athletic than the bull crosses I've seen over here, one of them worked with a bushing dog might be worth a look

Most people would agree that the bull type lurcher has all the attributes for foxes and were used preban to take them regularly but there are plenty of crosses that have done the job from collies to deerhounds, bull type dogs have that bit of aggression and didn't need to entered as carefully as other types, I don't really think that makes them superior but gives you more of a guarantee they will do the job.

Well I have heard of a bull x and a few guys out in the more open parts of the West use them as a kill dog but the book I was reading called for a collie x since a lot of you guys have experience with them if you did not have the ban to deal with what kind would you go for that had the speed to catch fox in a short run because most of the time over here it would be let them loss on fox and maybe coyote that was called into the open or bring in over bait
