terryd 8,940
Thought I would nip up and check the 5 snares I had set earlier in the evening and walk the dog at the same time. I all ways tend to take the lamp as well cause you never know lol. Across the first field then we come to an open gate. Now a few times this year I have had a rabbit by popping the light on before going through the gate as some times there is one right there. Sure enough tonight just as I hit the squelchy bit i popped the lamp on and a rabbit was away. The dog has sussed it and he was ready and off he went. The rabbit got to the hedge first but made the mistake of putting in a turn so game over for him. On to check the snares then and bingo one caught all ready. So a nice little walk and all is well in the world 11 Quote Link to post

micky 3,325
Well done Terry , its nice to see a new face posting on this part of the forum as there seems a a lack of interest in topics concerning the trapping or snaring of rabbits , the forum seems to be going in a different direction now days , perhaps we could inject a little life into the subject with posts on snaring muslims or trapping homosexuals as these things seem seem to attract more interest to members on what was once a very good hunting site muslim rabbit sneaking into the country looking for young white rabbits to abuse 14 Quote Link to post

micky 3,325
its no use just pressing the like button write something , put a picture up , have a opinion , take part , there are enough people looking , why not add something instead of just pressing the like button lots of people who put interesting and informative posts have left or do not bother posting and people always say its because of all the bitching going on , well its not ,they are all grown up and can take a bit of criticism and the odd bollicking, its because no one else posts 1 Quote Link to post

jok 3,446
Terry D and Micky. Just a little tale form yonks ago. I was 12 and we had gone to a camp near Pitlochry. I must admit it was. Good stuff making your own fires and cooking over them. Cutting a short story long, lol, met a little local thing that needed a bit of attention. While having a wee wander (no not down her pants you clowns), mores the pity when I think back, We sat on a heathery type of place and I was transfixed watching a fella going round a real afield small field, surrounded by larch trees and oblivious to us watching. Didn't have a clue at that time as it was getting darkish and we had to get back. Anyhow the things as that I wanted to know what he was up to so went sneaking off a bit later. The bogeyman caught me creeping about and explained what had been doing. Setting snares for rabbits. Well being me old self I suggested that were no rabbits there as we had been camped for a few days and seen none. Now then young laddie, meet me at about 4.30 am at the same place and I'll show you something strange. Oh sugar now what have I DONE or was about get done to?? Now this bloke was there and he simply asked, are you ready? Well I could have screamed all night long and I doubt anyone would have come to my assistance. This bloke got hold of the bottom one of a 5 stead fence and pulled it as high as he possibly could then let the thing go. It was like a gunshot. I clearly looked stunned not having a clue what had just happened until he suggested a little walk round the field. 53 rabbits. You could have knocked me down with a feather. This guy knew his onions and to be fair he gave a fair few to our camp leaders for us lads. Then I got the bollocking. For my transgressions, not mentioning the young lafy,I was stripped, staked, covered in the general area with strawberry jam and left for a while with the Pitlochry midges as company. Snaring never really seemed the same again after that. Thank you for reading my little narrative. JOK? 5 Quote Link to post
