My fathers work mate was at home yesterday and his partners grandchildren were there in the garden with his two little dogs.

He went out to find the children feeding rat poison to the dogs out of a rat trap he had stuffed into a pipe.

So quickly he went off to the vets, they injected the dogs with morphine, which made them throw up and there was a fair bit of rat poison in the stomachs. The vet told him they will need to stay in for two days and two nights.

Well knowing what a bunch of sharks vets tend to be these days and having been tucked up before, he said this time he was not prepared to write them a blank cheque!

 

He said tell me what it's going to cost now, so she started, two vails of morphine, he said i just watched you and because they are small dogs you only used one vail?

So next, someone will need to come in to check then in the night that's £60 per visit per dog, he said but what difference does it make if you are coming to check one or two? Why charge twice.

 

Well the bottom line is they want £950 per dog for that bit of treatment!

 

I hear stories like this all the time.

 

Puts me off ever owning another dog.

Mrs boss dog had cancer or something . Their quite rich so didn't really have to worry about price . They did tests and sent them off for scans. Told then it would cost 450 for the scan results to be checked by specialists. When the guy went to pay their was a young new girl at the desk and she gave the wrong paperwork to the guy and guess what . The scan actually cost quid . They never go to that vet again

I don't know about Britain but here in Ireland the occupation with the highest suicide rate among males is the veterinary practice.

I don't know why because crooks tend not to have conscience, unless of course it's the ones with a conscience who are killing them selves.

Take tail docking for instance.

It's legal in Ireland to dock the tails of pups of a working breed. But the Irish Veterinary organisation has told their members to refuse to dock.

Dock the tail of a 5 day old pup = 10 or 20 euro.

Bring an adult dog into have an injured tail amputated = hundreds.

Docking is a basic animal welfare need.

Even now to buy innoculations for a pup you must go to the vet for a prescription which you then bring to the chemists before buying the jabs.

The vet still gets his cut.

It's a joke and they're causing animals to suffer.

Thats true . He kicked off big time . I made the point he was well off because its a small town and the vets would have known this so probably thought theyd try it on

 

 

Flip side is we have a vets who is great . Cheap and when we had to take our dog to get small stitches on a sunday he didnt charge us out of hours for the meetup . LLandeilo vets

the key is to find a sympathetic working dog vet.alot nowadays are antis,or linked up to the rspca some form or other.they prey on pet dog owners who own a 1400 pound pomski.

I take no shit from them and have been chucked out of the vets before.

 

I had to pay £350 to get my spaniels eye out and was not happy about it but it was better than some would take.

 

Argue and haggle every penny they ask for.

Animal welfare . . More there bank balance welfare , we know they put a great deal into qualifying ect but what I've seen & heard it literally is a licence to print money playing on people's vulnerability / lack of knowledge , all there interested in where I go is pet dogs & cats . . I'd love to price work for 1 off them as I'd be working off there figures to a degree just to give them a little taste of there own medicine

Neil im sure you heard of bob freyne in celbridge alot of working dog owners go to him my mate qoate of two and a half grand off the veternary clinic and someone told him to go to bob and he priced euro its good to see there not all in it for the money.
