Fallow Deer Rtc Aftermath.

Recommended Posts

Coming back from lydney, seen couple cars parked up in road ,wife said accident ,but as we got closer I could see only one with frontal damage so said or deer, we went carried on as there was a man stood there talking to the damaged car driver, and further on in a dip was the dead deer on the edge of the road. More people were stopping round the car.so I pulled in front the deer, lovely looking small doe, possibly a yearling, van driver stopped an took back end an we put her on the verge.she didn't weigh much, could lifted her on my own,and she didn't have scratch on her. Car was a mess drivers side all beat in .badge was in middle of the road. I said to wife couple of minutes could been us.though I slow down there as its a notorious deer black spot.

I reckon she was a mess inside, funny thing was my toddler was screaming his head off in the car,an I thought it was where we both got out, turned out it was because he seen the dead deer. The van driver was off to tell the estate as it came from their land ,but I did think was lot of dog food I just left behind and everyone was busy with the driver .

I've been called out to finish five off in the last couple of weeks , sometimes I don't get called out for weeks on end but the three busy times are when the fawns start moving about July /August, when the rut kicks of and when the clocks go back so dusk coincides with the rush hour ....one I did last year the old fella had just bought his first ever new car , he hadn't gone three quarters of a mile from the showroom in Uckfield to the A22 bypass and hit a fair sized fallow buck with no road sense ...I was gutted for the old boy , his wife was in tears the car was trashed ...

Its okay picking them up if you see them getting totalled in front of you but if a deers involved in a rta the police call out a vet who puts the deer to sleep then leaves the carcass for the local council to pick up . first you know of it is when your dogs etc are in a bad way

i think thats more of an internet legend,,than actual fact,,,,why would a vet or the police leave a carcas that a human may pick up when no ones around,,and eat,,,,not to mention wildlife ,,foxes badgers,,birds of pray,,,the list is endles...

the road i take into berkhamstead runs for several miles through ashridge forest, absolutely heaving with fallow (they shot something like 600 last year apparently) 40 mph limit and loads of warning signs but they still drive like maniacs and there are lots of accidentsd. but the worst i ever saw was about 9 years ago on the A11 near thetfiord, 5 oclock one summer morning i saw a car which had run up into the hedge, ambulance and police already in attendance. i pulled up to see if i could help and there was a good sized red stag almost ripped in half smashed into the hedge and partly under the car. woman trapped inside in a bad way, whole front of car looked like she had driven into a brick wall. she was a real mess......
