My Lurcher And Mink Hunting Rats Together

Recommended Posts

Good video mate nice little team your lurchers coming on and is the box to carry the mink?

Yes, the box is both to carry the mink, as well as give the mink a place to hide her prey. Whenever she catches something, she is supposed to put it in her box, and when she does I reward her with ground meat.

Great vid really like ur way of hunting. Do u ever hunt anything other than rats with the mink?

Yes, I hunt lots of different stuff. Along with brown rats, we also hunt squirrels, rabbits, kangaroo rats, muskrats, and chipmunks. On special occasions the mink might catch other interesting things like birds or snakes, and I have friends who like to fish with their mink. I myself don't like my mink to catch fish anymore, because I have learned that mink who learn to fish can sometimes get distracted chasing fish while muskrat hunting, so I avoid letting my mink catch fish. Here are some videos of my mink catching various other animals that we like to hunt......

Here's a picture of a 6kg goose my young 835 gram mink Fang took down a few weeks ago. This is to date the largest animal I've personally seen a mink take down. I REALLY wish I could have gotten a video of Fang on that goose!!!

Thanks very much for your reply minkenry looking forward to watching your vids later when home. I'll be honest i view the mink over here in ireland as a pest, but i find it amazing the way you have trained and work your mink and it shows just how versitle an animal they are. Keep up the good work and please keep us updated happy hunting

Minkerry. Might seem a daft question but is there not a risk of the goode flying off with Fang? Or does the mink kill it too quick for the goose to react??

Oh, I'm sure the goose could physically fly away with a mink, the problem is the mink quickly climbs up the goose's body and neck, and then bites them on the back of the head or throat area. Just like a little 150 lbs man can control a 1000 lbs horse with a halter tied to the horse's head, or throw an 800 lbs steer by twisting it's nose around (a cowboy sport called "bull dogging" or "steer wrestling"), the mink can control the big goose by hanging onto its head/throat area. I would assume the goose could fly away with the mink if it only hung onto the goose's leg.
