mmm in hind site sitting there last night looking at the dog laying there knackered again. In his 2 1/2 years his spent at least 6 months and we can add a few more by the look of it confined to a lead

But then this morning just walked him round small field and he started staring at some sheep. I thought what the hell. I walked him towards them out of curiosity to see his reaction. The sheep bugger off but still stared at the same spot. Lifted a little trough and out shot a mouse lol which he had scented a good 15 yards away and despite being in a lot of pain he wanted it sorting

I just can't not respect his heart and drive

 

 

if he makes old age it will be a miracle but I wouldn't have it any other way

I went out for a shine myself lastnight.

9 in the bag.and about 9 or 10 given up on.

He will try his best in the open but as soon as hes 2ft from cover

He will turn away and come straight back to my leg to put the slip on.

Wont even put his head half way in cover.he will watch the rabbit make its way through cover.upto 11 month old he would hit cover hard for a blackbird .

About 11 month old he chased something out of site down a wooded hill

Really shifting.a few mins later came back looking pissed out of his head

With a good mark and lump on his muzzle.

Im sure he hit a tree.

All that night he was in the house staring at the ceiling spaced right out.

Strong concusion.

So he must of made his own mind up about self preservation.

But cant fault him otherwise.

Thinking about it now its probably a good thing he wont hit cover 70lb crashing into cover in the dark is only going to end in an injury.

I would rather him injury free than have an extra bunny.

None of my dogs ever proper crashed them, hit some stuff now n again it's inevitable, but my hairy dog would push rabbits back off the hedge rows and if rabbit got in hedge he would follow up the hedge and now n again pop head in etc.

None of my dogs ever proper crashed them, hit some stuff now n again it's inevitable, but my hairy dog would push rabbits back off the hedge rows and if rabbit got in hedge he would follow up the hedge and now n again pop head in etc.

Thats it its just a rabbit.

He pushed some back off the cover if coming at an angle to the hedge.

But if the rabbit is running straight at the hedge 90 degree he dont want to know once the rabbit hits the hedge.

I only use rabbit to feed 2 dogs a pup and 4 ferrets.

So rex the pot licker is doing great for me.

On a dark enough night most rabbits stop just inside the hedge. My collie crosses all learn to slow down and pluck the rabbit out. Only works on a dark night but when he comes back keep the lamp on the hedge and try walking him up to where the rabbit went in so he can smell it. As I say, it only works if it's dark enough but once they learn it they do it themselves.
