Treehands. 1,379
Most of what I know was picked up from my old man like many others, Being a pigeon man of the old school his knowledge of stockmanship was top grade. Not having his pigeon passion never sat easy with him really, I only saw them as ferret food to be honest. Most lofts back in the day always had a terrier or two , and his was no different. Being an avid follower of hounds , and terrier work in particular. My early years were spent constantly around his feet . And as I've grown , my passion for terriers grew alongside me. I've met a lot of people along the way , but only a handful I would trust. Respect and compassion was drummed into me as a youth.. something missing on this forum !!!!!!! EGO is one of the biggest enemy's of man with jealousy a close second. As it happens ATs old mate was the only mate of mine that my old man had any time for. Back in the day he would be over for some dog work and spend most of the morning chatting with me dad. How the years have past !!!! I'll bore you no longer ...it is what it is... Squirrel_Basher 17,102
Egos yes mate, been guilty ,not necessarily a bad thing unless it goes to the extreme .Life has a way of keeping us grounded though as I've found out .Went through a few years thinking I'd cracked it with a good group of mates but how wrong can you be .I now have a handful of lads I speak to and never felt better .Just wish I was younger to get the best out of what I have now .I've met some first class terrier men but also some that love the sound of their own voice and havnt stepped up to expectations .I enjoy letting others talk ,and boy can some talk lol. I learned years ago never to pursue the names in the game ,they are no better than a decent quiet lad ,there really is nothing more to the game than sourcing good stock and digging to it regularly though others would have you believe they are the holy grail and the preserve of a few elite lol.No need to seek a name when starting out just a lad that digs regularly to stock of the same appearance because he can't do that with shit .My own mentor struck me as the odd one out locally because he had terriers that all looked alike and not one of each breed as was the norm back then . 14 Quote Link to post

One thing I have learned about life over the years (and I've learned f**k all about life) is that friends are like terriers. You're better off with a few good ones than a load of bad ones. 17 Quote Link to post

chesney 5,582
I picked up most of it myself along the way a couple lads were good enough ta help out when they could but learned it's best ta keep your own company a few decent honest lads about not a whole lot from my experiences. But I'm the boss of my crew now just me myself and I lol. 3 Quote Link to post
