Bed Bugs

Bed bugs are not something I get called to much, but had a call to a lady being bitten by something (she is convinced bed bugs)

 

I spent a long time searching the usual hiding places in/around the mattress, the drawers. pictures on the walls, carpet edges and underneath, dark areas near the bed, peeling wallpaper and even electric sockets - No faecal marks, no insects, no skins.

 

Have advised to photograph her bites so that if she gets bitten again can see if it was during the night, also advised to have white sheets so that any blood spots show up. Only the lady bitten not the husband. Have said she maybe being bitten at work and think it is when she is at home.

 

Have not sprayed yet, as nothing to spray.

 

I know there are many different bed bug detector items available, Are there any you use often and can recommend?

It's difficult to say when people get bitten. Some show up straight away, another person will take 24hrs to get a reaction, some never show a bite.

Bed bug bites sometimes appear in a line but even that's not guaranteed.

 

I'd say if you couldn't find anything and shes getting 'bitten' a lot then it's not bed bugs. I'd say your recommendation of white sheets is spot on...no infestation is invisible.

 

I'm not a massive fan of bedbug traps. Sx do a clear plastic one with glue between and a circular sticker that sticks round the bed leg....Iv used these and they are handy in hotels to monitor extra rooms, they do work...if you want more details of them I'll get the product names from catalogue tomorrow.

Lol... bed bugs are very difficult to treat... if she washes her bed clothes @90 degrees.. then id treat with phobi or cymetrol and ficam d the sockets.. thats if you find them.. most pest control suppliers will have bed bug detectors and monitoring pads in stock.

If only it was that easy! Treatment success depends on a few factors-how heavy the infestation,how long they've had it (a lot of clients are economical with the truth on this), how much furniture,pipe/cable ducting,how much the room is used etc etc...

yeh true, prob is alot cases to get rid , but everybody will get bed bugs at some time (everybody) , it not being unclean etc , they thrive from body heat on the human body, i was told this from my GP . If i ever had few bites i do as i say, clean the sheets, and the vac-cleaner over and it deff gets rid of them . you are right though they will come back, but it what type of bugs your dealing with, the ones that live off your body's the above will hold them back, but other type bugs (dust mites etc ) as you say prob go to be dealt with differnt.!!

When I was a Commercial Pester,.treating Student dwellings,.Halls of Residence,...blocks of flats, etc,...I was frequently called in to treat Bed Bugs..(not to be confused with harmless Dust Mites) ..

 

It was a difficult job....and often emotional.

 

Back then, we did not have the modern insecticides,.growth inhibitors,..residual, styles of dusts and gels that are available today,..in short, our armoury was basic...We did what we could, but it was often a case of chucking the Velvet headboards, mattresses,...curtains,.even bed frames,..out of the window

I've seen folk in tears as they have lit that big old bonfire in the garden,..but,.that was that,.no other way.

 

Nowadays,..things have moved on ,.we have sensitive equipment to help out with the eradication of this major pest , even special trained dogs to detect their presence !

Bed bugs are a profitable market for some specialist firms...

 

Mercifully, I no longer work in that field,.so Cockroaches , Pharaoh Ants and even the Red Rust Grain Beetle, hold no attraction for me

 

Wasps in the Summer and Moles and Rabbits in the Winter,...life is sweet...

Bird I think you may be confusing bedbugs with mites or lice. Bedbugs are a different ball game entirely. Dust mites live in the mattress and do not bite, they live on your dead skin. Lice can only live on the host and cleaning plus proprietary personal treatment will clear them up.

Bedbugs are insidious little b*****ds that hide in beds, headboards, furniture and cracks and crevices throughout the room. Vacuuming will not get rid, we use a combination of super hot steam and residual insecticide.

You will be very unlucky to get bedbugs in normal living situations.

 

Clearly you have never come across bedbugs, they are one of the most difficult and chemically resistant insects in the world!! A bit of hoovering and changing sheets will do bugger all to get rid of bedbugs! They are horrid things, you are confusing dust mites with bedbugs.

that sounds about right mites living in mattress, ive deff been bitten few times, not sure if they had a go at my wife, but deff had me, do dust mites bite then as well ?
