Never to old to retrain KD…….go for it

I dont believe in them courses mate. What they teach you you could learn off google and you tube. Have a think what you want to do i.e. domestic or commercial/construction then research what quals are

I've got a mate who only learnt to read at 31, he's a teacher now.

Iv a few mates just finishing there training off, deceided to become sparks at 31 like yourself, time flies, before you know it your qualified and earning

did they go on a night course learning or something else mate

  • 3 months later...

I've always been interested in surveying and setting out since all those years of assisting engineers on the railway. I've never really looked into doing it as I know the time and costs would be substantial. Anyone on here a surveyor or know anyone who is? I'm bored shitless of my current job......

Give it a go fella. I did my city and guilds into my late 40s and where I work they're always encouraging you to have a go at something. Mind you, the maths part of it was a b*****d, I struggled but got help with it. Did my mini digger training a few years ago along with chainsaw. Not life changing but enough for someone my age. Did night college as well, getting A level in a few subjects. It's never too late ?

You're a surveyor then? I've assisted setting out engineers on the railway so I know the basics. I can use a tape haha and know how to read a drawing, I also know how to use a laser leveller with a staff etc..... I don't know if there is a route to go down without earning a degree though that's the trouble.

No mate, not a surveyor but I work for a utility company so do use the tools you mention now and again. I was just saying that it's worth giving anything a go if it will bring you job satisfaction and a decent living ?

It's knowing how to start and getting a foot in the door that's the hard part.
