Paddypat 32
Hi lads and lasses. Any tips and tricks on keeping your ferrets cool and comfortable in the heat? I freeze bottles of water and stick those in the hutches so they can lay up next to them and there in a shaded spot. Hope to hear your ideas and advice Quote Link to post
Sirblessed 2,511
I use a mist watering system and shade cloth but our heat gets to 40c in summer and I have no problems 3 Quote Link to post
Arry 25,278
I lay some roof battens on top of the felt roof then put a sheet of ply wood on top to create a air gap. Also put a small paving slab in their hutch and a old roasting tray full of water. Cheers Arry Quote Link to post

deanflute 550
Utilise the winter sledge. Fill with some water and let them splash away! 3 Quote Link to post

Joe1888 672
I joined THL a few years ago with an interest in ferreting, looking for advice and help.. Back then i seen comments of "these posts return every year" , we need more pinned, helpfull threads in this forum... Frozen bottles is a good one, much shade around the hutch as possible when its to hot. Quote Link to post
Bosun11 537
Shave them...Seriously, housing space is key, give them enough room! If poss, just whilst it's so hot, relocate your housing to more shade if you can. Keep housing really clean, change drinking water at least twice daily, cooler water is more appealing. For sommat different, cut one side down of an old washing up bowl, put a couple of inches of water in and the'll have a nice cool bath when they want.Oh and those hammocks are bloody brilliant! Gaz_1989 9,539
I've moved my hutch into the garage these last few weeks. It's cooler in there than outside, plus leave the window open. I've been feeding frozen rabbits and pigeons and I've hung sticky fly strips in the garage just by the hutch. It seems to be working. 2 Quote Link to post
bedx 51
haven't done it this year but couple year's back fixed a white bedding sheet over the shed roof and had a electric fan going Quote Link to post
mcgoo huntz 0
With my ferrets I usually put a water tray in and they splash about in that but sometimes I freeze a few bottles of water and they will lie against them if they are hot but if they are not hot they have fun playing with the bottles Quote Link to post
mcgoo huntz 0
I also let them out of their run to play in the garden and have a few water bowls out but of course my garden is properly secured so they can't escape Quote Link to post
