The true patron saint of england was the saxon king edmund, killed by the danes. our national flag was the white dragon on a red background. (saint george killing the dragon) foreign invader suppressing the conquered...makes me smile, all these "patriots" when you get certain types banging on about engerland and st george and how they wont bow to the foreigner....oh the irony.... This country is becoming flooded with foreign influence that expect to be allowed to celebrate this day and that day according to their religion .... The government are even considering changing the dates of exams to suit the minority that are fasting for Ramadan because they can't concentrate properly .... YOKEL 2,356 Posted April 23, 2016 Report Share Posted April 23, 2016 (edited) i am proud of the country that has housed and raised me all year round, i do not need a specific day for such celebration. saints on the whole mean little to me being a heathen/pagan.My original post was merely to highlight the fact that the patron saint you hold in esteem was forced upon you by an invading/conquering force. as for the country being flooded by "foreign influence" it was BORN out of foreign influence as has already been discussed above. i can imagine when the Saxons came, the people before would winge, "these bloody foreigners wanting us to change to suit their ways....move on to the danes/romans/normans etc. every time foreign influence rears it's head, those who dwelled before would have a winge....i find a good walk in the woods helps in these matters, away from the t.v and it's biased news reports, away from the internet with the same, away from the radio/ newspapers etc. when you walk free amongst nature the world an ALL it's inhabitants is a beautiful great place.... Sadly some in NI are to blind to see that. We have a dangerous enemy common to all of us who will try and destroy our way of life and values that our countries were built on. It doesn't matter how religious or atheist you are, our nations foundations come from Judaist/Christian principles which are as fair as you'll get. Rant over. The native Britons invited Saxon mercenaries to defend them from the Picts by many accounts,the others were invaders and rightfully treated as such. But how foreign were those people? Same race,religion and very similar cultures and traditions. Not a different species of human with a vastly different culture and worldview.
