Carraghs Gem 1,699
the catholic church still has a very firm grip over Irish laws and politics, any who think it doesn't needs to read up on laws on marriage, divorce, wills, abortion, registering a baby and look at the hassle you get if you are an atheist trying to send your unbaptised child to your local school
delswal 3,819
Surely the whole sorry affair is proof that there is no God? For if there were a God then 'he' would have never allowed such activity in his name..... Seems to me that religion is an excuse to inflict suffering and oppression on others. It dosnt work like that, I see it said plenty of times but it just isnt like that......."god" set the ball rolling and gave everyone a set of rules to make their life work.....what they choose to do with that information is down to them. The Catholic Church must have held massive power over here, they still do, so you can only imagine what It must have been like years ago. There are massive old churches in every little town, must of cost a fortune to build.....and all this while people went about starving and with no shoes! That has got f**k all to do with religion, as always, it's just a group of people wanting power over other people and dressing it up as Christianity........it's f***ing disgusting, but it's the people doing it that are disgusting not the bible itself. I have my own beliefs, wether they are right or wrong their mine, and I also respect another man's or woman's beliefs. But for all those who genuinely believe in the almighty (god) who created us, for whatever reason he had. Do you never question the doubt of his existence when he allows such atrocities to go on under his name? If almighty had the power to create us, surely he / she would have the power to put an end to such atrocities. Do any of you believers ever ask yourselves this? This is not a pop at your beliefs it's a genuine question, as I don't believe I am not in a position to ask myself the question.

No, of course you wouldn't, you would just let him keep f***ing up until he saw the light or died. We have the most advanced brain on the planet......what more do we want anyone to do for us? Remember, it's men making all this stuff happen.....making kids die, starting wars, killing the planet.......man are doing that all on their own Jmho Edited February 28, 2016 by WILF

delswal 3,819
Nope I totally agree with you were would you start, but I guess making an example of one would be a start. But then again I am a non believer anyway so I won't hold my breath. But if anybody does believe and it gives them and their family comfort then at least something good comes out of believing. WILF 49,959
See, it's real easy to say "why don't god stop kids dieing?".........but it's less easy to say that for every gallon you put in your car someone may have gone and started a war somewhere and thousands of kids got killed.......just so you could drive to the shopping centre!! Complicated chaps, very complicated and complex.......a bit like this great creation.

delswal 3,819
Example's don't always work with that I will agree, but putting fear into somebody does. Shame the big fella cannot do an appearance to set an example. If he did I will guarantee you one thing, I for one will start believing and every fcuker else will start toeing the line. keepitcovert 842
The catholic church is the perfect hiding place for paedophiles, war criminals and other such scum, look at their track record, a pope that was an ex ss man, religion is for the control of masses of the public and has very little use in todays society. Fair one mate, personally I'm not so sure it's a "big fella"........but I believe what I see and nobody is gonna convince me that a f***ing great oak tree and all the information to form it comes out of a tiny little acorn and that is all just by accident!! Which Pope was a member of the SS? Benedict XVI was drafted as a regular soldier that ended up deserting the German army during WWII but that's hardly the same as being in the SS... Silversnake 1,099
It seems anyone with power will abuse it be they Catholic, jew, Muslim, atheist, entrepreneur, politician, etc have power = abuse. These 'non Jewish' religions don't wield any serious power and seemingly have little to no ambition for it. I can only think of the dalai lama really having any serious notoriety and not abusing it but i don't know the man personally and he could be crooked too. This thread has got me thinking that just about everyone with power is a sick, oppressive, megalomaniac! Too much power to too few is clearly not a good thing...
