'A 13-year-old Ladson boy fended off two would-be burglars by using his mother’s gun to protect himself while home alone Tuesday.

He killed one of them in an exchange of gunfire, and the second suspect was later arrested, according to the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office.

The boy saw a man try to break into the back of the home, "at which time he feared for his safety" and grabbed his mother's pistol, the document states. He began firing at the man, and the Sheriff's Office reported that the man returned fire.

The two suspects then fled, and as they drove away, the boy continued shooting at them, according to the affidavit.

Brown had been shot three times, and Bennett drove him to the hospital. The gray Chevy Sonic they were in had bullet holes in it, the affidavit states.'

It's just a shame one of them survived.

It would concern me a little that a 13 year old had unsupervised access to a firearm......

 

But it ain't my place to judge that decision and evidently it's a good job he did! Obviously he knew how to use it and clearly there was a need for that.

 

I'd very much like to live in a society where responsible use of firearms for self defence is considered a right.

But it ain't my place to judge that decision and evidently it's a good job he did! Obviously he knew how to use it and clearly there was a need for that.

 

I'd very much like to live in a society where responsible use of firearms for self defence is considered a right.

 

Apparently he had no training in how to use it,and was told to call 911.

 

I doubt that though,he shot the burglar 3 times and the car had holes in it even though they were driving away,i can't believe hasn't done much shooting.

True but when you compare the same stats to the Swiss and the Czechs, then it's equally something we've done wrong? Civilian responsibility perhaps?

Yes but the Swiss have one of the lowest crime rates worldwide full stop regardless of gun crime.

 

Ok forget the police and government we,ll all take responsibility for ourselves and probably end up like Somalia who have a non existent police force and no stable government...... but its ok because the people take responsibility for themself.

 

Ironic as well how the Swiss have such low crime rates when a good percentage of the criminal economy ends up in Switzerland
