Preventing Poaching In The Uk

Recommended Posts

Neil Cooney. This person is an absolute looney. How the hell can you ask a question like that anyway. Is he/she developing the ultimate drone, an underground telescope, the complete Loughborough Uni as spies or what?? Oh? maybe a new line in International dogs without Border conflicts and complete Airport security, Hell, this could go global even as far as China. Do they have poachers over there, Do they really know the meaning of the word, POACHER. Somehow I think not. I'll just kep doing what I do and the family and friends are more than happy.

Hi,

I am a Design student at Loughborough University and I am designing a product that will be used to give landowners and Gamekeepers in the UK more security against poachers. I just have a couple of questions that I would like to ask that will help me significantly with the research. It would be great to get some feedback from you! Thanks

-How does poaching occur on your land?

-What do you find to be the best defense against Poachers?

see what you have bloody started!:laugh:

Right Design Student. YOU have given us nothing except a question. We have given YOU, I'll admit, a kind of rigmarole answer. Now what exactly is this design project that is going to stop poaching, ANSWER PLEASE.

Thanks Jok,

Sorry for not being so up to date with this. Frankly I didn't think this would get any response at all, so cheers guys for all the comments. It's actually provided me with some pretty good insights into how people feel on the subject of poaching.

In answer to your question Jok, I'm actually in the research phase at the moment so I don't have a physical product idea yet, but I'll keep you all posted on any developments (Not that any of you are at all that interested).

For roosting pheasants it's already been designed it consist of a thin thread wire with a current running through it that you simply unroll around the pen or any roosting area (as big as 800 meters in circumference) at knee height and if someone walks through it it breaks and set an alarm off in the keeper's house or truck and each pen has a different alarm sound ....I used them for years just a pain when a deer walks through them in the small hours....

Well that's great to hear! In that case I will definitely keep you all posted because I am very interested as to what you guys think, no matter what side of the line you are on.

And thanks Ragamup, I'm always keen to hear about existing products, I guess something to think about would be to redesign that product so that the deer don't walk through it, although I'd like to see the look on my tutors' face when I redesign an electric wire haha

So are you going to "poach" that product?

Haha I see what you did there

The aim is to come up with a new idea, but it will most likely be drawn together from a range of existing products and new innovative technologies/materials

So do we have to imagine that this a deer product or idea? You know something fella, there are a hell of a lot more poachable products in the UK. Get yourself into The Australian little man now in this country, the Wild boar,or in fact really treat your tutor with some underwater poaching. Now that would blow his socks off.

why on earth would you wanna stop poaching?? Beggars belief lol

Nobody would ever believe you were poaching Meat, not strutting about in the clobber you wear
That's the plan, if ever caught, plead insanity lol
just ask them to help you back to the minibus
I just start singing the song from singing in the rain and dancing about and they usually leave me be
Is that with your skirt tucked into your knickers and wearing the big size 12 frog eye wellies
You know me so well
There's only one Mushroom

T'fuuk

I have muck boots not froggies 😅

I think Ch-Suk is onto somehting here. All he has got to put together is an SAS trained alsation, the brains of a navy SEAL,(shit, forgot they ain't got none LOL),able to use det cord as trip wires, silent shotgun, smoke to stop the buggers getting away, telecommunications with every law enforcement officer in the country, not be able to sleep at any time especially between 5.30 an 6.00, drive either a high speed motorcycle or 4 wheel drive, have a crew available with a nice cosy 4.5m RIB and just generally be a bad guy. Yep that sounds easy. Good luck with your tutor.

      Hi!
I am looking to collect some game feathers from local shoots (Oxfordshire) for crafting purposes.
I know eBay and other sites sell them but not in the quantity I need.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
I am willing to go and pick them up.
      Many Thanks!

I found. Two dead poults near two different drinkers.  There was a little bit of blood on a feeder near on of them. Both show no signs of be predated upon  no sign of disease. No discharge nothing the waters where cleaned two days ago but these are the first dead birds I have found in the pen. Usually I'd take them to the vet to get checked but the boss doesn't wanna do that  so are there any other signs that could point to a disease ect ??

      Hello

My name is Paul, i am 20 years old and i am from Grimsby in Lincolnshire.

I have recently had an interview for a Gamekeeping Apprenticeship at Bishop Burton college in Yorkshire and I have been offered a place so long as i can find employment but being in the north east Lincolnshire area Gamekeepers seem to be few and far between, i have contacted the major local estate (brocklesby estate which is owned by the Earl of Yarborough) and some smaller estates ran by farmers and the only replies i seem to be getting are "we aren't looking to employ anyone else" which is fair enough but also rather disappointing but hey, what can you do.

I am posting here to see if there are any people out there that may know someone that could take me on or actually take me on themselves in or around the Grimsby area?(30 mile radius)

      I have experience in:

      - organised shoots as I was a beater at my local shoot (no gamekeeper, it is ran by volunteers)

      - pest control as I often shoot pigeons and rabbits for the local farmer.

      - Handling rifles and shotguns

I can drive so transport is no problem. I am looking to work within a 25-30 mile radius of Grimsby.

The employer has a possibility of gaining a £1500 grant if they take me on which is provided by the college (the government have the final say however as it goes through them + Terms and conditions apply)

I am willing to do trial runs

I can do voluntary work to gain experience.

If there is anyone out there that will be able to help me it would be more than appreciated.

If anyone has any offers or information then please contact me via my email - Pldiplock@gmail.com

This is one of the latest films i did for angus moorland group. We tried to show in the film the education behind gamekeeping and the young people that want to become gamekeepers and what drives them. Let me know what you think. Very excited to be making more of these throughout the year.
