Any Advice For Car Sick Dog?

Recommended Posts

Hi i have a lurcher puppy, around 5 months old.shes good as gold training is going well.except,,, she gets terrible car sickness.really bad.i have tried everything i can think of.including , having her in a cage on the seat covered in an old sheet and newspaper.had another dog in with her had her on my boys lap.i have tried driving around a field really slowly.i have tried taking her in the car every day for a week, i have tried resting it for 2weeks.i have tried taking her for a really long walk before going in the car so she was tired.she just threw up and went to sleep.

She is not scared of the car she will happily jump in and out ,play and sleep in the car when its parked. As soon as its moving is the problem.

Its not fair on her because she must feel terrible.and its not ideal having to clean up sick all the time.the whole point i got her was to take her to work in the truck with me so its quite a big problem. I would be grateful for any genuine advice as i am desperate to sort it out.thanks very much max

Had a dog like this years ago it wS a bloody nitemare. I started to drive her to the local park bout a 3/4 minute journey then let her out lots of excitement & a good hours play run etc then back in car to go home again lots of excitement when home after 5 days doing this drove round the block on way to park just extending journey same back home & just extended journey every few days after bout a month she just associated the car with fun/excitement & was fine she used to come out with me all day in car no worries. Hope it all works out. Good luck bud

Thanks every one.i will keep at it.i dont think its stress related because she's happy getting in and out and happy when we get where we are going i think it makes her feel ill.like motion sickness.I've had pups that are sick once or twice and get over it but this one is on another level.thanks again
