Flipper_Al 1,012
So the lake we fish in France, the owner has said hes happy for us to shoot the rats at night, i wont have room in the car HW100, so i thought i might get myself a little rattie, will only be shooting at 5m max... So are they any good, how accurate, how many shots per CO2 cartridge, or are they complete pants 1 Quote Link to post
treecreeper 1,136
they are spot on as long as its not freezing cold, our kid had the king rat catcher was top for the money but it had the big gas cylinder so not sure how many you get out of a normal one. if your only shooting up to 5m a pistol might be easier if you a decent shot, bare in mind you cant legally hunt in france with air rifles and if your going on the tunnel you have to check the crack with the co2 or get them over there. 2 Quote Link to post
Flipper_Al 1,012
Were over in June so won't...I hope be cold, long as there accurate, I will get one Quote Link to post
Coypu Hunter 486
The ratcatcher's a longer-barrelled version of the 2240 pistol. The pistol itself puts out about 6 fpe, more than enough for rats at short range -- I've used it to good effect on magpies. Stick a red-dot sight and stock on the pistol, or go for the ratcatcher itself, which runs at about 9 fpe, and it'll do the job unless the weather's cold. As has been said, hunting with air rifles is illegal in France, so just disregard everything I've just said... and use a silencer. 3 Quote Link to post
Flipper_Al 1,012
That looks just the ticket 1 Quote Link to post
ryaldinhio 5,139
I have the rat buster - the 6ftlb pistol version in .22. Great little pistol. I havent hunted with it, only plinked in the garden so far. Its accurate and I would have faith in rat shooting up to 10-15 yards, my accuracy being an issue before power would be an issue. I get around 40 shots out of a small CO2 cartridge. I put a HW silencer on mine and it transforms the gun...... you wouldnt be heard from the next peg! 1 Quote Link to post

moxy 617
Nowt wrong with the ratty but I would advise one with mods or be prepared to do them yourself. The standard plastic breech is shite which makes the barrel a little loose and flimsy. Which in turn means your going to have to replace the bolt and probe and transfer port. That's £60 in upgrades at least. But worth it. Quote Link to post
Coypu Hunter 486
CH would a 9MM hollowpoint be overkill on rats? Well, I tried it with my .357 magnum one time, but wasn't sure of how well it worked, since I couldn't find the rat... 1 Quote Link to post

Blackbriar 8,569
Cracking little rifle, and great fun to shoot, which is a large bonus. And a whole world of mod's to be had........ Quote Link to post
Flipper_Al 1,012
Been looking at the mods available.... It could get expensive lol Quote Link to post
The one 8,579
Sounds good fun when the fish aren't bitting and with a low powered rifle there's little chance of a richy het on the water Quote Link to post
