What Do You Think Of Cockerdors

I've not got a problem with it being a cross anything type of dog, I'm not saying it couldn't be a great gundog if trained and yes those of you who have previously posted I probably would ask what type of cross it was, the problem I have (and perhaps problem is to strong a word) is people giving it them a cutesy name and charging a fortune for it, but then if people are willing to pay then hey ho, who am I to say?

Fortunately though I've been dabbling a little myself and I've managed to cross a "Werthers original", with the designer brand "French connection UK" , and a pair of "converse all star trainers", trouble is all I've ended up with is a "werthfcukall", any takers?

I think from the working point , there's no real reason to x working breed gundogs, as each one will tick the box for hunter = flushing, peg dog, and most retrieve anyway . But being honest ive seen a fair few of these designer type dogs, and what nice temp dogs they were, that cocker poodles and lab x poodles , one of the reasons they choose these type dogs, they wanted clever, nice temp, dog that didn't loose dog hair all over the place, and I think they made good choice . Lets face any ped dog to day knocking on £ 800 quid , so what there are paying for these type dogs only about normal price to day, and to me there temps are good as these people had kids with them. my sister had a standard poodle , big black feckin thing and was sharp with people /dogs , so x poodle with a gundog breed if just as a pet dog, I think was a better type dog  I have thought many a time what type of dog to get, when I pack lurchers in had bad back for years, and it seems to be getting worse of late. me as person always struggled with sensitive type dogs , and lurchers deff are even bullxs are, put any running dog in a mix you will get it  . so I was thinking what breeds there out there that don't sulk or shit it self if you tell them off , I don't want a dog in your face type, but just what I call normal type temp . I have thought of labs few times , but I was told they get few health probs today HD etc , even though just a pet I still think you need a healthy dog to go for nice long walks, anyway just few things going in my head at this very moment .lol

GSD x Lab are a really good cross.

yeh sounds good x , but heard some times this x can be bit sharp with people/dogs , but just be the owner to soft with the dog, this was from bloke who had this x few years back as guard dog .

In the early to mid 70's they were a very popular cross. Two unrelated ones in my street and anyone wanting one could find litters easy enough though the Echo or E&M.

Thats a bit of a high horse comparison is it not like a couple have said if u bring any running dog up as u would ur lurcher then uve got a lurcher so if u bring a pup out of two diffeent types of gundogs up as u would any other gundog then to me u have a gundog its up to the owner to bring the best out as with anyhing cheers terry ,)

There's a cocker x lab that I see when I'm out and about. Lovely looking dog, smooth coat, bit taller than a cocker and longer. It's only a pet and maybe not from working stock, but it's very busy hunting when I've seen it.

(Couldn't resist the easy face book log in so apologies for horse related rather than dog related imagery that may appear!)

Gun Dog 123, I convinced my other half to allow me to get a cross bred - he is a pure lab man.

I've never trained a dog before. I have a small level involvement on two laid back syndicates. Without exception I was given grief at the 'born half trained lab' vs 'dies half trained spaniel' rubbish. Equally 'you'll never stop it' etc etc etc.

Anyway, trained by a newbie (myself) with only verbal advice from friends, kept in the house (beautiful temperament with my now 4yr old boy who could definitely be more gentle with him), so everything going against him but he has the enthusiasm of a spaniel, the tidier coat of a lab and some of the lab attention span, and has a nose to die for. Last season was his first one out for real and yes the brakes weren't 100% (hoping that will come this year as a lot steadier). And the bonus is that I have had no further comments about breed and the fact he has no hope and only positive feedback. Even helped out with his crazy nose when some of the regular beaters get stuck on a bird occasionally.

Fingers crossed this year goes even better. He is just two in July so only thing I'd say is go slower than I did. Guess I got lucky and he's just very trainable and forgiving to my mistakes and inexperience.

Oh and part of convincing the OH was that he has working lines both sides but came to a grand total of £300 due to being a mongrel rather than £600 + on a pedigree!

Just realised I never stated ... he's cocker x lab too

well for £200 and by the sound of it it will do the job of a pure lab, and maybe not far of a springer job , you done very well there. the temp sounds great as well , I know any pup from a litter of any breed can vary pup to pup, but the genes are still there of both parents . my self I can really se the benefits of x bred dogs, ok I keep lurchers which are x bred dogs , but from health perspective they are norm healthy dog. I ve got a 1x gsd x grey big dog 28in 86 lb, but very agile/fast for its size picks rabbits up quite good for a big dog, I asked 2 vets from different practices regards the health of my dog compared to a pure gsd, both said that he be a lot more healthy and wouldn't get the hip probs HD like pure gsds get, and a lot of pure labs can get HD , so you might get a healthier dog for a start , with that spaniel in there as there quite a healthy breed of dog , the same as what greyhounds are as in my dog healthy .
