socks 32,253
I don't feed my dogs pork because of the trichinosis worm ... And they always seemed to be loose on it when I fed in the past ...... Quote Link to post
Phil Lloyd 10,739
didnt think you could feed it but only bones i can get are pork Never liked feeding the dogs on pork,... I found that the leg bones splintered badly. However, when the farm lads butcher a few porkers, I often scrounge a head for my curs,...they love em Edited June 25, 2015 by Phil Lloyd Quote Link to post

Fat-Ferret 857
A lad told me one time he could get all the pigs he wanted to feed his dogs...but he wasn't interested, bacon is far too salty for a lurcher!! Quote Link to post
Neal 1,929
The husband of a teaching assistant I used to work with was a butcher and gave me a couple of pigs' heads once. Hilarious sight watching old Rusty pick it up from behind and reverse into his kennel looking like some kind of chimera. Quote Link to post
Donna Wildwood 288
The old books used to advise against pork as it could carry the trichinosis parasite. Since it was eradicated from this country in the 80's (I believe;)) it is safe to feed british pork. I have no idea about imported meat though. Pi likes it, and a good pigs foot is excellent gum/tooth massage. I wouldn't feed the bacon or ham bits that sometimes come in the bags I get from the butcher though. Quote Link to post

possumtrapper 46
Pighunters over here feed pork to their dogs, although with my fussy lot, they'll turn their noses up to pork in favour of a nice possum. As the saying goes "Fresh is best". Back home in Stoke I fed dogs fresh tripe from the abattoirs, but man did it stink and you can get split pig heads from the butchers for $1, although that was a while ago. All in all, if the dogs do well on it and you have a regular worming regime, it can't hurt, better, healthier and probably cheaper than shop bought tucker, cheers, G Quote Link to post
beast 1,884
I feed pork from time to time, with no problems. Some of the dogs have slightly loose stools, but no worse than when they are fed any other meat they are not used to. After a couple of days their guts adjust. 1 Quote Link to post

BlackStreak 498
Here in the the states, the pigs will often have ticks embedded in them and hog lice crawling on them. I akin Quote Link to post
BlackStreak 498
Sorry, I hit add reply on accident before I was done. Anyway what I was getting at is we have external parasites and I must skin the pigs. Most of the meat is cut off the carcus and some feed to the dogs and the other is frozen for later. The guts remain in the torso. The torso is then wrapped in a huge garbage bag and then placed in the freezer for 4 or 5 days to kill internal parasites. The torso is then cut up with an ax and feed to the dogs. During the time it takes to freeze the torso, the other meat is usually fed during this time.. Sometimes I will cut out a lot of the hide and scrape it. Then twist it up and let it dry into rawhide. The dogs love chewing on the dried rawhide. The dogs are also on a good wormer 1 Quote Link to post

Maybe you do but just can't hunt them do to governmental polices. Here they are considered pests and there is no season on them nor is there any limit to how many you can in a day or year. Free dog food for those people who have access to wild pigs and who feed raw meet. Quote Link to post
