CushtyJook 1,097
I use old coca cola cheap stuff from any supermarket for 17p a litre or something silly, always found brass a pain in the ass to get back to old shine, pure copper on the other hand is easy, brass is an alloy of copper and zinc, coca cola or anything acidic will work but hard work if it's really old

Tiercel 6,986
It's called a bell rope To my knowledge a bell rope is used for a peel of bells not hung of the clapper. The ropes that hang of the clapper are usually tied in fancy knots such as a monkey fist or a hangmans knot, or braided such as an end splice. Willing to be proved wrong though. TC I tried to google it and search earlier to do just that I soon lost interest. I'm sure I can sleep at night lanyard will do for me. However. If you were to show how exactly a monkey fist is tied or some of the other fancy nautical knots. I'm interested.
