bracken boy 584
Whats your thoughts on tazer useage? I know my thoughts even on kids, just been listening on LBC, really enjoyed the phone in show with duncan barkes..
BGD 6,437
They've got their place when the police are facing armed or really big roided up blokes but I'd hate to see them used as a compliance tool like in America where they'll taze you just for reacting to their orders a bit slow. As for using them on kids, if a copper can't handle a kid without having to electrocute the poor sod maybe they should be looking at a different career? They're not a replacement for getting hands on. Definitely shouldn't be part of every cops kit, leave them to the specially trained rapid response units IMO.
Plummerterrier 291
If your breaking the law your breaking the law. Fair enough if its primary school kids it woukd be out of oder. But if its kids at high school and they break the law to the point where an officer feels the need to use a taser then thats their problem. mackem 29,522
Any cop who wants to go out with one on his hip should be willing to face a zap himself as part of the training he must undertake before being issued with one.

pie-eater 377
I think they should only be able to use them only in dangerous situations. I watched a program the other night, an old lady was asleep in her bed when she hears someone trying to get into her house, police turn up and the bloke jumps on top of the womans car and starts swinging at everyone with a pair of garden shears, police tazered him and took him in job done. That's the kind of situation that warrants their use imo.
Born Hunter 17,907
As far as I'm concerned, anything the Police are allowed for their defence, civilians should also be allowed for their defence. Why the Police are implicitly more trustworthy than I am I'm yet to understand. Also, why they have the right to greater means of self defence I also don't understand.

So following that logic, an armed response officer should get capped with a 9mm so he knows what it feels like then?
mackem 29,522
No,because an armed response officer isnt just your average bobby on the beat, they have undergone a lot of training and are psychologically equipped to carry a firearm, and understand its to be used as a last resort, tazers are standard issue and are drawn all to frequently, besides a 9mm is fatal, tazer isnt. bracken boy 584
My thoughts are simple, kids of 14 and 15 nowdays are out of control and some are 14st and6ft so if carry a weapon they should be treated as a danger to other people and a danger to our police so tazer the little runts, adult crimes adult punishment, we are so soft on the kids of today. MoChara 1,632
True about most being out of control now bracken boy. I swear go up past the court in town and it's all mostly young 'hoods' standing outside smoking, some of them look like young teenagers. Thing is it's usually never the last time, no doubt up past court a few weeks months later you'll likely see the same group of kids.
