Young rabbits are normally a right pain in the arse at this time of year ... Slipping through the nets distracting the ferrets from the adult rabbits etc ... However today they were welcome as I had l

I think you are on the wind up Kevin.....   Obviously no sane person would get a kick out of destroying new blood,..but when working for wages,..a young rabbit, getting back to ground on a deep ol

Whin it's got nothing to do with wanting attention otherwise I would be obsessively putting up pictures of big bags ... The whole reason for the post is to show a young dogs progress ... Without posts

It's called pest control when you are paid to kill rabbits in summer

It's called pest control 365 days of the year! Fleas, flys, feral cats, rabbits, pigeons, rats, mice and a host of other creatures termed 'pests' get controlled yearound, whether they've got young or not.

Could be farms, golf courses, race courses, sewage works, cricket pitches, someones house/garden or whatever, pests need controlling.

I partly get what you're saying, and yeah, no right thinking person deliberately sets out to kill young animals, but certain occasions demand it

How about this logic then......

Say he DOESN'T go rabbiting in summer, and says no to the farmer.

Do you really think the farmer will wait till winter or to you think he'll get someone else in/gas the burries/ shove myxo rabbits down the hole?

A pest WILL be controlled if the land owner want it done, either legally or not.

Since controlling the rabbits on my bit of ground, not only have me, the ferts and the dog eaten well, but the voles have returned as they aren't out competed. Since the voles have returned, the barn owls are back and nesting. The hares have returned and I am delighted.

Yes it's sad when a young animal has to die, but if you eat chicken you are eating 9 week old birds that never saw the sun.

Rabbits will NEVER be exterminated, thank gods cos I love the furry little beasters but they are a menace in large numbers.

Also i would far rather see them culled and used as food than have to do the round knocking em on the head when myxo stricken cos they're too swollen for me to neck em.

Of course in an ideal world it wouldn't be needed, but we are not in an ideal world.

And I'M the dreadlocked hippie chick! lol!

Thinking about it, Kevin's reasoning has nothing to do with the welfare of the animals, just the fact that young rabbits that may or may not reach maturity are being killed, there by possibly denying people future sport. Sounds all if's and's and but's to me.

It has nothing to do with anything except the fact his opinion is always correct despite the odds and everyone else is a slavering idiot.

I go out with a pest controller quite alot & strangely enough im in building game. I regulary lift floorboard , cut access panel etc for him to carry out his work through the summer months whether it be to gain access to Rats Foxes Squirrells etc we also do rabbit control in Summer if needs be. One of the places we do is a Stately Home who's Gardens play a major role in their yearly revenue with visitors coming from all over the country. I can only imagine the look on their faces if we told them sorry we cant control the rabbits as there may be young under ground!!! No one likes/enjoys doing it but life aint that simple. Incidentally we leave the burries in the surrounding woods & fields until oct as rabbit fencing been put in.
