moxy 617
As per the title but why do some folk feel the need to dress up a .22 or whatever calibre? to look like Something it isn't? I have seen .22 rifles dressed as AK47's and such. I'm just a little curios as to why? I'm by no means knocking it and their are some talented people out there, but for me a rifle is a tool. It's purpose is to do a job and not replicate something that it isn't. Edited January 2, 2015 by moxy Quote Link to post

Completely agree Moxy, I love the look of my bog standard CZ452 and would only change the stock if it gave comfort / performance benefits. As I get older I've started to appreciate the original factory look of quite a few rifles and moved well away from any 'bling'.. I did exactly the same with cars! moxy 617
Elliot. There are some brilliant craftsmen out there. Some of the custom stocks are cracking. But as you say, nothing but bling. I have the privelidge to know some of the best blingers in the uk airgun world and a few that do FAC things too. From an engineering background I appreciate the skills and work that goes into creating the rifles I'm talking about. Personally I like wood. You can't beat a nice grain. Is it because you can turn something into something it isn't? Or it's because it's something you can't have? Forbidden fruits. So to speak. Quote Link to post
Deker 3,491
Do you mean this sort of thing................. All .22lr, mix of 597 and 10/22. Or did you just mean people playing a bit with their guns? Edited January 3, 2015 by Deker Quote Link to post
Bigad 136
I Would not really see the benefit of doing this for me as I normally shoot on my permission so nobody really sees my rifle unless I take someone with me. But I did go to a rifle range to test out my zero and while I was in the club shop paying for range time and some ammo a member had one like this and the other guys there were all loving his 22rimfire that didn't look like one and it made him the talk of the club that morning. So other than show factor I can't really see much point Quote Link to post
walshie 2,804
Moxy, don't pretend you're not one of the "tactical brigade". Remember the pics of your 2 most recent purchases you sent me? Quote Link to post
moxy 617
That's exactly what I'm talking about Decker. I was also reading somewhere that lads were sourcing old air soft BB guns for their "tactical" looking stocks. Walshie. Leave me alone before I report you for bullying Quote Link to post
walshie 2,804
As with all this kind of stuff, it's just "bling". It doesn't add to the gun one bit I.M.O. If the gun manufacturers thought it did, they'd add those bits themselves. As you say, each to their own, but to my mind, it's the same as people who add mudflaps/dice/stripes/spoliers to their car. Whatever floats your boat. Quote Link to post
celticrusader 78
Tbh gents I think you find a lot of air softing and cadet malarky involved in this and I don't have a problem with this and its more than suitable for range use and I'm sure very fun, but thats where it ends in my opinion. I think there's a lot zombie fantasists in this area and as you guys have rightly said "forbidden fruits" being a term mentioned, being ex army myself its not my cuppa tea although I do use my 22lr semi auto it certainly wouldn't look like those rifles.
