downsouth 8,354
Robert lemm has a good dvd on his mill... It's on YouTubeIf I was going to follow somebody's keep it would be Robert Lemme's maximum stress keep.No spring pole, flirt pole, weight pulling just handwalks and short intermittent mill sprints.WInd wind and more wind everything else the dog needs if it hasn't got it naturally you're not going to really improve on it.

I don't know much about it but he seemed to be a fountain of knowledge and trains athletes with the same idea!! I liked the part where he talked about rescuing a Dog that lost, he bought it for 50 bucks and once he got it fit it won after it was previously written off as a cur... Nice story if it's true

Nice story if it's true The man conditioned and had a part in campaigning some of the best including a double grch.

gnasher16 31,489
Lemms keep was great in its day but would be seen as old hat by top conditioners with access to everything that top conditioners have access to today.

gnasher16 31,489
At that level its not about the future its about the here and now......competitors compete and breeders breed. Edited December 11, 2014 by gnasher16
johnny 2 367
Take that as a no then
gnasher16 31,489
Take that as a no then Take that as what you like.......elite conditioners are interested in the win on that day not what the dog will throw later on......and the scrupulousness of their keep will reflect this.

gnasher16 31,489
Oh i do hope you have no influence in bulldogs in this country I wouldnt be talking on this topic if i had anything to do with bulldogs in this country.......and neither should you be Theres a big world out there mate they dont all play by the good ol Blighty rules of not calling a gr ch a great dog until he,s produced a gr ch
downsouth 8,354
I think Johnny meant what conditioners have produced 7-8 or10 time winners not what dogs.I believe that the work side of Lemme's keep still holds up today the only improvements modern day conditioners have is improved canine nutrition and a better understanding of how to use steroids and drugs.
gnasher16 31,489
I know what he meant and thats my point......top conditioners condition dogs they dont breed them.....the age old British way of a general dogman who breeds, raises, schools, conditions, handles and doctors a dog just doesnt work at the very top level...... so to ask how many gr ch,s a conditioner has produced is like asking an engine designer of a formula 1 pit crew how much he knows about tyres ! With greater understanding of the chemical and lab sides of fitness comes the obvious likewise adjustments to the work side....like anything else time waits for no man and im sure Lemm would admit no matter how good his keep was then it wouldnt stand up to todays top conditioners.
