Up The Dales With Buster And Trigger

Just got back from a little trip up north.

Trigger came up with "Buster" from Shropshire at teatime and we got there earlier than usual because I wanted to introduce Trigger to one of the keepers as he was keen to See the MalamuteX in action.. So I dropped Trigger off and after the initial introductions they went for a walk with the Keeper's BullX and Trigger's Dog.

I went to a couple of fields further down the valley and lamped on my own with my young bitch "Doris" we managed 6 out of one field and then headed back to meet the other 2. They had only walked a few fields themselves around the back of keepers place and also caught 6 with both dogs. . The keeper liked Buster and dates were set for future get togethers after the grouse season finishes etc etc. . we said our good byes and headed off to do a different area.

The weather was not very good to be honest and after we had walked over a spot that usually produces lots of good sport,We were getting a bit disheartened and thinking of calling it a night..etc etc.

about 20 mins later we got a bit of drizzle and slight wind and things started to look up.. we split up over a few fields and and went in opposite directions ..and both came back with 6 each after 2 fields.. so we decided to carry on the same and went off in search of sport.

I kept dropping on patches of bunnies were there was half a dozen grouped up feeding,The dog was spot on picking the sitters off 1st and then basically Yo Yo -ing the bunnies back one at a time, they were sitting tight on the odd fields and it was great sport watching the dog do her thing. She was catching well and keeping up very well with the pace..I did some very long slips out on the edge of the beam and she was catching them also.

We could have easy gone on for a couple more hours and caught a good few more..but we called it a night at 2am with 61 bunnies in the bag.

25 for Doris and 36 for Buster.

Buster has been having some trouble with his Dew claws but you wouldn't have known it tonight, that dog can certainly do its job.

No pictures it was raining heavy when we got to car.

great night thanks mate. i didnt get back until 7.15 this morning the fecking road works between here and vins are unreal a 2 and a half hour trip took me 3 hours 20 minutes on the way up to vins. not alot better on the way home either.

didnt take any pics when i got home i was just to wet and tired to bother.

i was starting to panic abit at one stage as there wasnt any rabbits about. i thought i had traveled all that way not to see much on the spot we had chose to lamp but thats part of the game i thought you win some and you lose some.

as vin said a change in the weather helped no end, i had 30 rabbits in no time. my dog is tender today with his dew claws but thats getting sorted in 2 weeks.

Not being funny, but that amount of rabbits is a massive bag for most lads, so why sound so disappointed, you lot are lucky b*****ds if you catch so many how many do you run.Regards collie john.

Who's disappointed ? Sorry if it comes across that way fella.... I'm never disappointed.. I only have to be there to feel like I'm on top of the world.

I have had many many days and nights with no game in the bag or just a couple and on a good night a few. . . . And the best memories are of these type of days, where every bunny is hard earned from a hard place.

We were slightly worried because Trigger had made a journey of over 250 miles each way to have a few runs and early on in the night it was looking like we had picked a very bad night for the weather.

Nice one lads. Cracking result considering conditions weren't ideal.

Sometimes the bag is irrelevant. I'm travelling down to trigger Wednesday. Conditions will be far from ideal. Full moon and possible frost on the cards. But we've had it planned for a while. Sometimes good company, good crack, seeing another dog work and a few bunnys for yourself is as good as 30 bunnys on your own.

With any luck we will get thick cloud cover and a bit of rain. But either way I'm sure it will be a good night.

Keep at them lads.

Well done lads cracking night for the dogs, it's not the catch thats important I just love been out watching the way my dog works and figuring out the different tactics he uses for different situations as you all know not every run is the same , and to me I believe the more I learn from watching him work helps me to help him in the best way possible when lamping as its a team effort, he's had some good numbers from hard run places lately and I would like to think that's why
